Work in Broxtowe

Glenis Willmott former East Midlands Labour Member of the European Parliament

“Richard is an industrious and sympathetic Councillor, a hard working member of staff for a Labour MP, and a thoroughly reliable and committed Labour Party activist. He is continually looking for new ways of spreading Labour’s message, and his enthusiasm and good humour are also real assets.”

Richard has a high profile in his Kimberley ward. This is gained through hard work; helping lots of people with individual casework matters – this can be anything from housing and debt problems, to getting disabled parking improved, sorting their benefits out etc.  There aren’t many streets in Kimberley, where you will find someone who has not been helped by Richard.

Richard also has an excellent track record of campaigning on “issues” in his ward – & has a track record of getting results – in 2008 he helped pioneer a Community Speedwatch scheme – encouraging volunteers to monitor speeding traffic in Kimberley “hotspots”. The aim of the scheme was to get drivers to reduce their speed. Both BBC East Midlands Today and Central ITV covered this story.  As a result of this campaigning, new permanent speed cameras were placed on Awsworth Lane, Cossall, helping contribute towards better road safety and fewer traffic accidents.

He is working tirelessly towards promoting jobs, investment, reducing traffic convestion and supporting local infrastructure by championing the tram extension from Phoenix Park out to Kimberley, Eastwood and into Amber Valley.

Richard also corresponds with a large number of his constituents via e mail. He has an e mail group which currently has over 1100 members. These are issued monthly – and examples of his newsletters are shown below:
