Broxtowe News Update & Information Service August-November 2022
Hi all
Welcome to my latest newsletter.
Trust you are well.
It seems an eternity since my last local newsletter for June and July. I don’t make a habit of quoting Vladimir Ilyich Lenin, however his famous quip that there are decades where nothing happens; and there are weeks where decades happen seems particularly appropriate today. On 7th July Boris Johnson resigned as Prime Minister, then we had a Conservative leadership contest during the summer with Liz Truss becoming Prime Minister on 5th September – only for her to resign today as I write this 20th October. That’s around 45 days in office (less of course than Brian Clough’s 44 day spell at Leeds all those years ago).
I genuinely believed I’d witnessed most events that could ever happen in politics having worked for a number of MPs, and having been a Labour Party member for 38 years until 2019.
During the past few weeks I’ve realised again just how utterly unpredictable politics, as life can be.
Anyhow enough waffle from me, straight down to business now, plenty of local items to let you know about and discuss.
As ever if you need help or assistance on anything, or ever want to talk through something please let me know.
Please do note that the email address from which this newsletter is sent has changed to: rrobinson.richardsrobinson@gmail.com – the previous address you had – rrobinson@richardsrobinson.org.uk – no longer works.
My official Broxtowe email address remains richard.robinson@broxtowe.gov.uk
Best regards
Richard

Broxtowe News Update & Information Service – August – November 2022
– Should Maws Lane be made a One Way? Most current opinion appears to be No.
– County Council by Election in Eastwood.
– Maintenance of bridge on footpath from Chilton Drive to Flixton Road, Kimberley.
– Integrated Care System (ICS) Partners Assembly
– Have Your Say on Broxtowe’s Budget
– News in Brief
1) Should we look again at a One Way system for Maws Lane? Most recent opinion appears to say No.
I mentioned in my last newsletter: https://richardsrobinson.org.uk/2022/07/broxtowe-news-update-information-service-june-july-2022/ that a number of people had been asking again about the possibility of making Maws Lane One Way earlier this year.
Readers of this newsletter for the past few years may recall the very extensive work that was undertaken in 2016: https://richardsrobinson.org.uk/2016/08/submission-to-nottinghamshire-council-regarding-suggested-highways-improvements-in-kimberley-swingate-and-maws-lane-areas/
to try and establish a way forward and present arguments to the County Council for a serious programme of action to ensue.
In 2016 there appeared to be a slightly stronger body of local opinion that supported the possibility of making Maws Lane One Way.
The most recent feedback I have now had from residents however seems rather more against the idea of a One Way system than for it. To be honest what I can gather from most of the feedback is more concern about congestion along Cliff Boulevard, and the state of the roads and footpaths in this area. Happy to course to discuss further, but as it stands there does not appear to be a groundswell of support to change the flow of the traffic in this area. Please do let me have further feedback, and I would welcome any suggestions for improvements that people have.
2) County Council by-Election – Eastwood Thursday 3 November
A keenly fought by-election will take place on the above date, due to the very sad news that the incumbent Ed Cubley passed away in August.
If you live in Eastwood and require more information please click here.
The declared candidates for the election are as follows:
Conservative – Mick Brown
Independent – Kane Oliver
Labour – Milan Radulovic
Traditionally this seat was held by Labour for many years. However of late both Liberal Democrats and Conservatives have been successful in Eastwood.
It will be very interesting to see the result here, and to see if what the opinion polls show nationally is translated into a victory for Labour, against stiff local opposition.
3) Maintenance of bridge on footpath from Chilton Drive to Flixton Road, Kimberley
I have been asked by Kimberley Town Council to support the expedition of work in the above area, particularly to tidy and maintain the area.
I have contacted Broxtowe Borough Council about this, and when I have more information I will let you know.
4) Integrated Care System (ICS) Partners Assembly – Tuesday October 25 from 2-5pm
Members of the public are invited to attend the first ever Integrated Care System (ICS) Partners Assembly where you can help shape the future of health and care in Nottingham and Nottinghamshire. The event is being held at Mansfield Civic Centre and more information is available by clicking here.
5) Have your say on Broxtowe’s Budget
As part of its annual budget consultation, Broxtowe Borough Council is asking residents to complete a survey to show your views on services like waste and recycling, parks and leisure facilities and how you think the Council should use its budget to maintain these services. Details of how to have your say are shown by clicking here – together with information on a prize draw available.
6) News in brief
Fairgroves (FG) – I still continue to receive a large number of complaints from residents about the After Care Service offered by FG at the former Brewery Street site. I went with one resident to meet Customer Services at FG this week, alas no one was available to speak with then. Residents have had to put up with copious instances of unfinished work going back in some cases several years. I’m not sure at this point what the eventual resolution will be, but will keep you updated on progress (or otherwise).
