Broxtowe News Update & Information Service – June & July 2022

– Aintree Close, Kimberley – highways and carriageway work.
– The Ruislip Wall – lowered but not flattened – is this a problem?
– Rain or Shine Theatre Company is back in Kimberley – this week.
– Eastwood Road, Kimberley – parking problems.
– Maws Lane, Cliff Boulevard, Hardy Street – should we look again at a one way system?  And why is Swingate always ignored?

1)  Aintree Close, Kimberley

Last month I was approached by residents living on Aintree Close in Kimberley to investigate why the state of the road had been left in such poor repair following recent utilities work that has been undertaken.  I have made a number of enquiries, and as soon as there is more information I will let you know.

2)  Ruislip Close, Kimberley

Those of you who have been subscribing my to my newsletters for the past 10 years or so will know that there have been multiple efforts to try and get the wall at Ruilsip Close flattened or at least reduced.  Why was this so important to local people?  I have for around 10 years now received complaints of anti-social behaviour, drug taking etc – which – due to height of wall as it was, allowed such actions to flourish.  I worked alongside the police, Broxtowe Borough Council, and local residents to try and get the wall removed (ideally).  After many months dealing with the police and Broxtowe Borough Council, it turned out the wall actually was the responsibility of Nottinghamshire County Council (despite prior ownership being claimed elsewhere).

The County Council in turn were originally reluctant to do anything and were being very obstructive in releasing any meaningful information.

Following further pressure from local residents we approached the County Council again – and at last the wall has now certainly been reduced in size – as those of you who live around the area will have noticed.

During the past couple of weeks I have received mixed feedback from local residents – some saying that the work that has been undertaken to reduce the wall is adequate, whilst others are not happy and want the wall reducing further.

If you have any particular views that you would like me to raise further, please let me know.  I do intend visiting all the neighbouring properties during the next month – but if I miss you, do drop me a line.

3)  Rain or Shine Theatre Company is back in Kimberley – Thursday 21 July – performing  The Recruiting Officer

A reminder of an event taking place in Kimberley on Thursday at Kimberley Institute Cricket Club on Newdigate Street – please see details by clicking on the link:

Rain or Shine Summer 2022 Flyer.

Rain or Shine have performed several times in Kimberley previously, each one a great success.

Call Jim Dymond for more information and tickets on 0115 854 4734, email: james.dymond1@ntlworld.com

4)  Eastwood Road, Kimberley

I received a large number of unsolicited requests for assistance from residents living on Eastwood Road, Kimberley in June regarding several instances where drivers in cars had been repeatedly blocking driveways. We held a site meeting on Hall om Wong Park last month to discuss the issues, and I am currently working with several organisations to try and get a resolution and positive outcome to these problems.  If anyone would like any more information please let me know.

5)   Should we look again at a One Way system for Maws LaneWhy is Swingate always forgotten?

It seems barely possible that it is now six years since a major consultation (lasting around 6 months) was undertaken in Kimberley to see what we could do to get better traffic flow in two particular areas – Swingate and Maws Lane

For full information please see here:

https://richardsrobinson.org.uk/2016/08/submission-to-nottinghamshire-council-regarding-suggested-highways-improvements-in-kimberley-swingate-and-maws-lane-areas/

There was a huge amount of work put in (and not just by me I might add), we had public meetings with volunteers coming forward to help with all sorts of ideas.  The County Council’s response was pretty pathetic.  The only concrete thing we have really seen during the past few years is a £25,000 scheme to put in bollards at the bottom of Maws Lane (only for them to be subsequently knocked down several days after being installed).  To quote directly from the County Council senior officials at a site meeting I held with them alongside other Kimberley residents: “this scheme provided the quickest and cheapest option” for improvement.

Fast forward to 2022 and I have received a number of requests again for the possibility of a One Way scheme around Maws Lane, Hardy Street area to be looked at again.  If you any ideas you would like to raise, whether or not you support the idea, or have other suggestions that could be looked at, I’d be really happy to hear from you.

Also – Swingate (as per usual), is totally ignored by the County Council – despite the valiant attempts by Cllr Sam Boneham (new member of Kimberley Town Council) for a number of highways improvements.  The matter of Greens Lane getting blocked never gets taken seriously by the authorities.  Again, if you have concerns about Swingate please let me know.

News in brief

Blocked gulleys – well it appears that some of the ones reported along Hardy Street have been cleared.  If you have issues with blocked drains etc in any other area, please let me know.
