Apologies for no update last month, I ran out of time. It was exceptionally busy, especially with work involved on Kimberley Leisure Centre (see below), so this is a joint October and November update.

1) Parking charges – The Precinct, Kimberley
Many of you will be aware of the ongoing problems local residents have experienced with the way parking fines have been issued in Kimberley.
I have received many complaints from local residents who have used the car park above legally, only then to receive arbitrary and hefty fines. Some of the fines have been overturned from the representations I have made (but not all of them).
Later this month I have arranged a meeting on site with a senior representative of Smart Parking Limited – to discuss the concerns, and in particular the use of the cameras in situ. I am looking forward to this and hoping that the problems that people have been experiencing will be fully addressed and the types of fines that are currently being issued will stop completely.

2) Update on the future of Kimberley Leisure Centre

3) Relate
Some of you will have heard of the charity Relate. I have been appointed by the Borough Council – to serve on its local board.
Here’s just a little information of the work of Relate:
Relate Nottinghamshire is a local county wide independent charity providing a wide range of counselling services to couples, individuals, families and young people. When people hear the word Relate, they often think of Marriage Guidance. And for many years that was what we were known as and what we did. But times and needs change and so have we. These days Relate still provides relationship counselling, but our clients are as diverse as we are. Our highly skilled specialist counsellors will work with you regardless of your relationship status. Many of our clients come on their own to talk in confidence about their current relationship or sometimes to make sense and to understand previous relationships.
We often see people at transitional moments in their life. For instance, a partner has a new job, or you are moving home, or there is a death of a family member, one partner is made redundant, another maybe facing retirement all of these life changing events will benefit from the intervention of a trained counsellor to help you through. For many couples the birth of children and watching them grow up can put enormous strain on any relationship. Our specialist family counsellors will work with the parents and the young people to help find solutions and guide you through those difficult years.
For many of our clients, infidelity is often one of the biggest problems they must face. Here at Relate we try to work with you to bring you back together or if needs be help you separate safely and well ensuring the welfare of your children is put first.
We also provide a specialist mediation service for those who have decided to divorce.
The second largest part of our work is providing sex therapy counselling to clients who need support with loving and intimacy. We also provide sex addiction counselling to people whose behaviour and sexual activity is getting out of control.
We do charge for our services and our fees vary from £20 to £80 an hour depending on your income. We also provide a free 30-minute telephone counselling service which is available on Monday and Wednesdays.

4) News in brief
GILTHILL SCHOOL KIMBERLEY – ZEBRA CROSSING
Prior to the COVID-19 outbreak last year a petition was raised by several hundred local residents wanting a zebra crossing near Gilt Hill school. I have been approached again for assistance with this, and have started some new enquiries to find out if we can take this matter forward. The County Council originally refused the request for a crossing, but there appears to be growing local support in the community for a campaign to help bring about some meaningful improvements, across a very busy Eastwood Road, near to the school. Support is also coming from Sam Boneham (see item 1 above) – he is assisting Kimberley Primary School with their endeavours to get some action taken there – and as both schools involved come under East Midlands Education Trust, we are joining forces to see what can be done collaboratively.
If anyone would like a copy of the original report that the County Council produced regarding a Zebra crossing at Gilthill, please let me know.
The Head Teacher at Gilthill – Nicky Allison has recently written to parents last week to seek their views on how to improve road safety in the vicinity around the school.
I will update you on progress once I receive more information.
DRAINS ON HARDY STREET, KIMBERLEY
This appears to be an ongoing issue, with further complaints coming in during the past two weeks. I have made representations as appropriate, and am told that work will be undertaken to improve the current position for local residents.
If the problems still persist into December, please let me know.

Are small friendly groups meeting for textile lessons in my home on the Gilthill, Kimberley. Classes are limited to 5 students in well equipped workroom. All levels of ability are catered for, from GCSE catch up – to recreational sewing. I am an experienced textile teacher with twenty years experience which I would now like to pass on in a more relaxed atmosphere. Classes cost £3.50 per hour for up to two hours. On Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Friday during the morning or afternoon, and some evenings. During 2009 some of my students have made their own clothes, Advent calendars Shopping bags, wall hangings and full size machine pieced quilts.
