Broxtowe News Update & Information Service – January 2021 edition
Trust you are keeping well in these continuing very challenging and precarious times.
Welcome all to the first newsletter of 2021 and to all those who have joined over the past few weeks.
There’s a variety of matters to report on, and it’s been crazily busy of late, so I’ll not waffle and get straight down to business.
Feedback is always welcome and if ever you need help with anything, please let me know.
Together, we can and will get through this COVID-19 pandemic.
- COVID-19 UPDATE
- New defibrillator provision for Kimberley
- Request for provision of new pedestrian pathway between new industrial site Panattoni Park (Amazon & Hermes), Eastwood, Nottingham NG16 3UA
- Footpath from Broomhill Road through to Chapter Drive, Kimberley
- Business grants in Broxtowe
- Various highway related issues
1. COVID-19 Update
One of the most frequent questions I have been asked over the past few weeks surrounds why there is currently no Vaccination Centre in Broxtowe.
I am not happy with lack of provision in the borough particularly bearing in mind the numbers of elderly who are having to travel some distance for their vaccinations.
For example one Kimberley resident told me on Wednesday this week, that he took his 80 year old neighbour to Gamston for her vaccination (by public transport and uber), which took several hours altogether. This was fantastic act of goodwill by a good neighbour – however it is not acceptable that people should have to travel this far. Not everyone has neighbours who are able to help out in a similar manner.
I have contacted Nottinghamshire Clinicial Commissioning Group (NCCG) and asked them to urgently look at Vaccination Centre provision in Broxtowe. I have suggested that Kimberley Leisure Centre be considered as a venue. When I have more information I will let you know.
Some of the most up to date key information surrounding the current vaccination programme is from NCCG is shown immediately below, and I have also added the he latest COVID rates for Nottinghamshire:
· Over 75s and 80s can book their vaccine now
· Over 70s will be receiving an invitation letter from yesterday (28 January) inviting them for a vaccine
· Please don’t contact the NHS to seek a vaccine, we will send out a letter inviting individuals to book an appointment
· When you receive your letter, please act quickly to book your appointment
· Please continue to follow all the guidance to stay at home, protect the NHS and save lives
NCCG are currently asking for all over 75s and over 80s to book their appointments. They will have details of how to do this in their invitation letter.
Letters to the 70-74 cohort have been dispatched and we will open the booking system to include this age group from yesterday Thursday 28 January.
Please urge relatives, members of the public, friends and family who fit into these priority cohorts to book by using the appropriate web link (below) or by calling
0115 883 4640.
Covid-19 Vaccination Letters
Two types of letters are being sent out to those who are eligible – one from the local NHS and one from the NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Booking Service.
The local letter – sent out by NCCG – will direct patients to Local Vaccination Services. In Nottingham and Nottinghamshire there are now seven Local Vaccination Services offering vaccinations to the public alongside three Hospital Hubs.
The national letter – from the NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Booking Service – will give the public the option of having the vaccine at a large Vaccination Centre, or potentially a community pharmacy depending on whether these are available locally.
It is important to note that the public will only receive a letter from the national NHS Covid-19 Vaccination Booking Service if they live within 30-45 minutes drive of one of these sites. Therefore, very few Nottinghamshire residents will have received one of these letters previously. However, now we have a large site in our patch we expect more people to receive these letters which has the potential to cause some confusion. Please see attached a simple graphic that you can use to explain the difference between the two types of letters.
Care Homes and the Housebound
The Covid-19 vaccination programme in care homes is successfully underway across the county and city. Nearly all older persons care homes have now received the vaccine and the few that haven’t have been due to clinical reasons. Over the weekend GPs from a number of practices supported this collaborative work in a final push to vaccinate and protect our most vulnerable as quickly as possible.
The national directive is that we start to vaccinate homes for those with Learning Disabilities after 15 February, unless residents have specifically been flagged as Clinically Extremely Vulnerable which puts them in Cohort 4. Our roving team and GPs are ready to start the process for Learning Disability homes in line with the national timetable.
The NHS is contacting those who are housebound by letter. This letter, which has been dispatched, will have details on how they can receive a Covid-19 vaccine. Our dedicated ‘roving team’ will be delivering the vaccinations. Please find latest information on this service, including a detailed FAQ here
This week we will see our first pharmacy go live in a positive step forward for our county. NCCG are working with NHS England and Improvement to support the roll out of the Covid-19 vaccination programme in more pharmacies across the city and county. More details will be available and duly updated in the coming weeks.

2. New defibrillator provision for Kimberley
An application for grant aid made by Kimberley Town Council towards the purchase of a new defibrillator to be installed in a reconditioned former telephone kiosk and located in the Kimberley area, was considered by the Finance and Resources Committee at Broxtowe Borough Council on 7 January 2021.
A grant of up to £1,200 was duly awarded to this extent.
More information is available from Martin Paine, Chief Audit and Control Officer Broxtowe Borough Council – firstname.lastname@example.org
3. Request for Provision of new pedestrian pathway between new industrial site Panattoni Park (Amazon & Hermes) Nottingham NG16 3UA, & Eastwood
I have been approached by a number of people living locally who are concerned about the lack of footpath for people working at the new industrial site (on the A610) just after Eastwood going towards Langley Mill & Ripley (where new the little roundabout is). A number of workers on the site (home to Amazon and Hermes) walk to and from Eastwood Town Centre (and further afield) and to do that they have to walk alongside the very busy A610.
The information that Nottinghamshire County Council (VIAem) has provided indicates that a Feasibility Study was carried out which concluded that the cost of providing a footway would be extremely high (around £350,000). The added complication is that the A610 north of the brook is owned and managed by Derbyshire County Council.
Further enquiries are being undertaken to find out what possibly can be done to make the area safer for pedestrians.
This matter has been raised with Lee Anderson MP for Eastwood & Ashfield – email@example.com – & also County Councillor Alex Stevenson (Greator Heanor) – firstname.lastname@example.org
If anyone needs any more information please let me know.
4. Footpath from Broomhill Road through to Chapter Drive, Kimberley
- There seem to be intermittent problems with bin collections due to parking on Noel Street. Anyone affected – please let me know.
- Bellway Homes Limited – finally – after several months of trying – Bellway Homes (BH) have accepted land ownership of problem fencing and overgrown shrubbery affecting residents near Hillcrest Close, Kimberley. They have promised to come back to me on what action they are prepared to take to improve matters.
- Potholes – High Street, near Dale Road and Leslie Avenue Kimberley- I have contacted Nottinghamshire County Council this week regarding the state of road and the number of potholes in this area and have asked for resurfacing to be undertaken. When there is more information I will let you know.
- Parking problems – junction of Valley Road and Awsworth Lane Kimberley – I have received a request from local residents for white lines in this area. There have been problems recently with cars parking over tactiles. I have made contact with Nottinghamshire County Council. When there is more information I will let you know.
