Broxtowe News Update & Information Service – October edition
Trust you are keeping well, still in these continuing very challenging times.
Thanks to everyone who has been in touch over the past few weeks – there’s a wide variety of matters to report on, and it’s been crazily busy of late – so straight down to business.
A good deal of my work locally is on hold or being delayed due to COVID, however I’m trying to make progress wherever is practically possible. I’m aware that I’ve still got some enquiries to come back on from some of you on a range of issues including parking, bins and vehicles obstructing the highway. I’ll get onto these asap.
Feedback is always welcome and if ever you need help with anything, please let me know.
Together, we can and will get through this COVID-19 pandemic.

1. COVID-19 Update
Earlier this week Broxtowe Council was promised a comprehensive set of specific guidance for local business support and also rules for residents with Nottinghamshire going into the very highest tier of restrictions. It has been delayed on several occasions due to the confusion surrounding what parts of Nottinghamshire were going into this, and when from (as I write the information has still not been received) – safe to say we are all in Nottinghamshire in the higher tier from one minute from midnight Friday this week. I have taken lots of messages from local business on what they can and can’t do and what support is available. As soon as I have it – I will send the information out.
For now some of the best information on a wide range of subjects including hospitality, what constitutes a support bubble, what constitutes a main meal in a cafe etc are available at the following links:
If anyone has any questions please let me know and I will endeavour to find out the correct answers.
2. Western Power Distribution
Following on from the major disruption in and around Swingate and Greens Lane last Christmas, Western Power were due to undertake further major roadworks in Kimberley (the post office) during the summer (replacement of underground pipes). This has now been postponed until Spring next year.
Please let me know if you require further information.
3. Kimberley Leisure Centre
I attended a recent meeting of the Leisure Strategy Task and Finish Group (Broxtowe Borough Council). The council’s negotiations with EMET/Kimberley School are progressing well, and Broxtowe BC hope to agree a new Community Use Agreement within the next couple of months.
When there is more publicly available information I will let you know.
4. Request for Provision of new pedestrian pathway between new industrial site Panattoni, Park, Nottingham NG16 3UA – & Eastwood
I have been approached by a number of people living locally who are concerned about the lack of footpath for people working at the new industrial site (on the A610) just after Eastwood going towards Langley Mill & Ripley (where new the little roundabout is). A number of workers on the site walk to and from Eastwood Town Centre (and further afield) and to do that they have to walk alongside the very busy A610.
The information that Nottinghamshire County Council (VIAem) has provided indicates that a Feasibility Study was carried out which concluded that the cost of providing a footway would be extremely high (around £350,000). The added complication is that the A610 north of the brook is owned and managed by Derbyshire County Council.
Further enquiries are being undertaken to find out what possibly can be done to make the area safer for pedestrians.
If anyone needs any more information please get in touch.
5) Langley Mill Super Hub (incorporating Tram extension Line 4 phase III to Kimberley, Eastwood, & into Amber Valley) – A further (virtual) meeting took place today Friday 30 October with Nottingham City Council, senior officers and cllrs from Broxtowe meeting to discuss the next steps in this project with regards to tram extension from Phoenix Park. Following on from the meeting we are now planning to work together with a Economic and Transport Consultant, alongside Nottingham City Council in order to make the strongest case possible for significant investment in the Kimberley, Eastwood Langley Mill area in terms of improving public transport links.
6. Various highway related matters – Kimberley
- Orchard Street, Kimberley is shortly due to have its Residents Parking Scheme implemented. To give you some indication of how long things in local government take to materialise, I raised this matter directly with the County Council in the summer of 2018. Wheels don’t half turn slow in local government!
- Broxtowe Avenue (area), Kimberley is due to have its roads resurfaced during November.
- I am currently awaiting a response on various highway related matters including resurfacing of Ruislip Close car park, and the scrap metal vans on Gilt Hill.
- I have reported to the County Council faulty lighting on Maws Lane, Kimberley
