This newsletter is much shorter than usual and just highlights several issues in particular including an important public police meeting being held tomorrow in Eastwood.

There is also information on a Planning Committee meeting at Broxtowe tonight which is attracting a lot of attention from residents in and around the Stapleford area, with an Aldi application pending.

I’ll be back with a full newsletter edition towards the end of next week including details of the neighbourhood community meetings regarding the Swingate and Hardy Street Action plans in Kimberley on 27 January and 30 January.

1)  Public meeting at Eastwood Police Station – Thursday 14 January 2016, 7pm – 8 30pm

The Northern Cluster Neighbourhood Policing Team which covers Brinsley, Awsworth, Cossall, Newthorpe & Giltbrook will be holding a meeting to discuss and set priorities for the next three months.

This meeting is open to the general public and key members of the community to attend and takes place at Eastwood Police Station, 146 Nottingham Road, Eastwood NG16 3GG.

This is a great opportunity to find out what is going on with policing in your community and have your say.

2)   Pinfold Trading Estate and Nags Head, Nottingham Road, Stapleford (Full application to construct shop ALDI and outline application to construct dwellings)

This application is attracting considerable attention especially from residents in and around Stapleford.  Members of the Planning Committee at Broxtowe will be considering this matter tonight.

3)  New course being run by the Workers Educational Association (WEA)

The WEA which operates out of Rumbletums in Kimberley on Victoria Street, are launching a new course in January next year.  This will be specifically about the growth of Fascism in Europe between 1890 and 1925.

4)   Stapleford and Trowel Rural Action Group (STRAG)

I have been asked by STRAG to let you know of the following information:

Detailed plans submitted for the development of a 1st phase – a detailed application for part of Field Farm has now been received and STRAG have commented as follows:

Dear Friends of Field Farm,

Following to the release of Field Farm from the Green Belt and the outline planning permission given for up to 450 houses in November 2014, a detailed planning application has been submitted by Westerman Homes to Broxtowe Borough council for part of the site, and made public on 17 December.

This deals with about one-third of the Field Farm site, the south-western corner, between Ilkeston Road, Trowell Road, the footpath from Ilkeston Road and Boundary Brook. The proposal is for 118 houses, of which 33 (28%) affordable – 24 1-bedroom units, 10 2-bedroom, 29 3-bedroom, 27 4-bedroom and 13 5-bedroom. Most houses are 2 storeys high and a few 3 storeys. All are individual houses except for some houses with two or four 1-bedroom apartments (no larger apartments are planned).

Disappointingly, the application takes no notice of the suggestions by STRAG (supported by many of you) to approach the planning of the site as a whole and to take measures to spare the most valuable parts of the site by using higher densities in other parts. No plans are provided for the remainder of the site, and the proposed density of 37 dwellings per hectare in this phase 1 would probably not allow for any reduction of the spread of the development (if all 450 dwellings are eventually built).

The Planning and Design Statement is a good point to start.

The public consultation is now open and comments can be submitted up to 25 January.

Please give special attention to ecological impact and mitigation measures, flood control, traffic and social cohesion issues. Refer as far as possible to relevant documents such as the National Planning Policy Framework and the Greater Nottingham Aligned Core Strategy, which have requirements in terms of environmental impact and quality of design: while the developers quotes some, compliance may not resist detailed scrutiny! The Council needs solid legal arguments to refuse permission or require substantial modifications.

Are small friendly groups meeting for textile lessons in my home on the Gilthill, Kimberley.  Classes are limited to 5 students in well equipped workroom. All levels of ability are catered for, from GCSE catch up – to recreational sewing.
