Kimberley, Awsworth, Cossall & Trowell News Update & Information Service – March 2015
Hi all
Welcome to the March newsletter. A special welcome to those who’ve joined recently.
I’ve made this newsletter a little shorter than previous editions – there’s so much work on at the moment and with the elections (borough, parish and parliamentary) pending on Thursday 7 May 2015, I’ll try and keep the information below as concise as possible.
A particular big “thank you” to all those who responded to February’s newsletter – especially with views on how we could make traffic improvements in Kimberley for various locations (see below).
If you need help with any individual casework issues, as ever please get in touch.
Best regards
Richard

Kimberley, Awsworth, Cossall & Trowell News Update & Information Service – March 2015
1) Swingate Action Plan and Hardy Street/Maws Lane Cliff Boulevard Action Plan
In February’s newsletter – https://richardsrobinson.org.uk/2015/02/kimberley-awsworth-cossall-trowell-news-update-information-service-february-2015/ – I mentioned in detail about specific traffic problems that have been highlighted again in this area (Hardy Street). This sparked off a range of comments and suggestions as to how things could (and maybe could not be improved) .
This then prompted discussion in other areas of Kimberley (ie Swingate) as to the persistent problems that occur when Greens Lane is blocked off for any reason.
In order to try to secure some long-term improvements and to allow for the maximum consultation with the public what I’ve decided to do is to draw up over the next few months respective Action Plans dedicated for example to Swingate and Hardy Street areas. There’s lots of ideas out there of how to improve and change things, and what I want to do is work with local residents, Broxtowe and the County Council (and there maybe other bodies) in order to try and get some sort of consensus, of what realistically can be done. I have raised specific issues with the County Council and want to keep some momentum going.
I’ve talked with Andy (Cllr Andy Cooper about this), and what we want to do is pull a series of meetings together after the elections on 7 May (providing that is of course we are re-elected) – in order to plan thoroughly what we are going to do. Naturally these will be for all members of the public to attend and have an input. We very much want this to be led by local residents for you to have your say.
Watch this space after 7 May for further details. In the meantime if you any suggestions you would like to contribute, please do let us know – we’d be very happy to hear from you if you have not been in touch already.
2) Car Parking problems – Iceland, Eastwood
From time to time I receive complaints from people who have parking ticket problems and recently I’ve received some regarding Iceland, Eastwood. I’m keeping a log of these, and if anyone has had any particular difficulties here I’d be interested to know.
3) Rumbletums – are looking for new Trustees
Rumbletums would like to appoint up to four new trustees by 31 July this year.
As a trustee of Rumbletums, you would use your skills and experience to make sure the organisation runs efficiently, to sustain and further develop their services and activities and to support and advise the staff team as and when necessary or appropriate.
These are both challenging and exciting opportunities to help Rumbletums further impact our local community. For more information please contact Jeff Buck – 0115 9459421 – jeff.buck2768@btinternet.com
3a) Rumbletums (RT) have a vacancy for a cook
Working for 25 hours per week – Tuesday – Saturday (£7.85 per hour) RT are looking for an experienced cook who can assist with the preparation, cooking and presentation of a range of food at the café in Kimberley and who can particularly assist, and on occasions run, the busy breakfast and lunchtime services.
You must also be able to support young people with learning disabilities undertaking training placements within the café.
Applicants must have worked in a commercial kitchen and have food preparation, cooking and baking experience, although further training will be provided where necessary.
Please contact Jeff Buck for a full job description and application form (or for more details) by e-mail at Jeff.buck2768@btinternet.com
or by telephone on (0115) 9459421
Alternatively, you can pick up an application pack from: Rumbletums Café, 2a Victoria Street, Kimberley, Nottingham, NG16 2NH
Completed applications must be received by 5 00pm on Friday 3 April.
4) Tram extension Line 4 phase III to Kimberley, Eastwood & into Amber Valley
There’s now a specific page on my website dedicated to the proposed tram extension:
5) 532 Notts Bus Connect timetable
Just a quick reminder about the new timetable for the 532 service affecting the Hardy Street/Cliff Boulevard area in Kimberley. In case you missed my November 2014 update – you can find the timetable at: https://richardsrobinson.org.uk/2014/11/kimberley-awsworth-cossall-trowell-news-update-information-service-november-2014/
Also Andy (Cllr Cooper) and myself have contacted Nottinghamshire County Council to find out the latest position about the future of the bus service. As you may recall the County Council intervened last year to put on the new service, however there is some uncertainty about how long the contract is for. We’ve therefore asked for clarification on this.
When there’s more information we will let you know.
6) New book released about Cossall
A new book has been released called “Cossall through time”, written by Awsworth resident Bryan Maloney, it costs £12. You can contact Bryanby ‘phone on 0115 8494761 or via email: bryan.maloney@ntlworld.com
7) The Gate Inn, Awsworth
A special evening is being held this coming Friday 27 March 2015 starting at 7 30pm. This is to celebrate and make a presentation in respect of funds raised towards the Prostrate Cancer Research Centre. Over £7,300 has been raised.
Entertainment on Friday will be provided by Rosie and Taylor (an acoustic duo). There will also be complimentary nibbles and a choice of ten traditional beers, served from tapped and vented casks.
More information available from Stephen Fox at The Gate Inn, Main Street, Awsworth, NG16 2RN – email: thegateinnawsworth@hotmail.co.uk – tel: 0115 9329821
8) Election day 2015
With working full-time for an MP apart from being a borough councillor, I sometimes forget that whilst election dates are permanently hard-wired into my system – the public don’t always take quite so much interest!
Just to confirm then on Thursday 7 May this year the General Election takes place – and if you live within Broxtowe you also have the opportunity to vote for your borough council candidates (and dependent upon where you live and if it’s being contested – town council as well).
If you are away on holiday on 7 May 2015, or would prefer to vote by post, and are not registered for postal votes already – there is some important information at the following link, including deadline dates for applying:
http://www.broxtowe.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=599 (there’s information here too on proxy voting).
Next month I will issue a comprehensive newsletter covering some of the main issues borough council wise, names of candidates standing for all parties and other useful information. There are some important changes to note (I’ll cover all of this next month) for example there are new wards – Cossall and Kimberley will no longer cease to exist from 7 May – Cossall goes in with Awsworth & Trowell to form one ward. Whereas Kimberley will become one ward in itself – incorporating parts of Nuthall (around Larkfield Road) and Babbington Village. There are changes in the south of the borough too, and I’ll go through these in April.
If you would like to help and assist campaigning for any of the Labour candidates standing in elections in Broxtowe please let me know.
9) Broxtowe Women’s Project (BWP)
BWP will be holding the Freedom Programme for all those wanting to learn more about how to combat domestic violence – with a specific 12 week programme taking place between April and July this year.
For more information please email: enquiries@broxtowewomensproject.org.uk

Gerry Hargreaves has a background of electrical installation and maintenance followed by considerable experience of energy monitoring providing technical support to the marketing division of East Midlands Electricity.
Projects throughout the UKhave included energy monitoring and data/billing analysis to assist companies to improve efficient use of energy. This has included disputes with electricity suppliers and distributors and site surveys, installation of temporary monitoring equipment and recommendations to install suitable power factor correction equipment. Site surveys for the installation of a M&T at major sites, have been undertaken and with the recent advances in remote monitoring technologies surveys and installation of GSM smart meters have been undertaken at distribution centres of a leading logistics company. A request by a leading UKenergy supplier has resulted in the installation of remote data collection technology, including planning and installation of remote data logging equipment to monitor and analyse usage data from geothermal sites within theUK. This work is ongoing in the development of renewable energy and low carbon technology.
Site visits and travel are significant reduced with the application of t-mac technology.
