HI all

Welcome to the August newsletter.

Anyone would think that this month would be quieter with local community news.  Not the case!  There are lots of events going on so straight down to business.

You should now receive this newsletter in the most up to date format after a couple of months slightly different.  Any problems do let me know.

As ever – if Mary, Andy or myself can help with casework or any other matter do let us know.

Hope you find the latest newsletter useful.

best regards

Kimberley, Awsworth, Cossall & Trowell News Update & Information Service – August 2013

1)   Oxylane Sports and Leisure Development – Broxtowe
Some of you will be aware the original planning proposals submitted by Oxylane to the council in July, regretfully were not successful.  However I am aware they Oxylane are still keen to pursue their proposals and discussions are ongoing in order to explore further possibilities for development.
Expect further public news on this after September, and when any information is forthcoming I will let you know.

2)   Farmers Market Kimberley – Saturday 3 August 2013

The next Farmers Market in Kimberley is tomorrow 9 am until 1pm.   Toll Bar Square.

Do come along!  We are expecting new stall holders.

Kimberley Farmers Markets are always the first Saturday of the month.  For more information contact Cllr Sue Cooper – Sue Cooper sue49cooper@hotmail.co.uk

3)   Cinema Project Giltbrook Retail Park

The public response really has been quite astonishing.  You can view the on-line results here at:

You will see for example that out of 1,507 that have voted in the on-line poll (as I write)

1,439 – 95.49% are in favour

45 –       2.99%  are against

In addition to the stats above, I have petitions and tear offs plus texts from another 400 people supporting the cinema.

The team of residents from Kimberley, Cossall and Awsworth I’ve been working with have compiled a full document that will be presented to the management of British Land on Tuesday 13 August.

Please get in touch for any further information or if you have questions.

4)   Tram Phase III Phoenix Park – Kimberley

Now the County Council elections are over – KENTAG – (Kimberley, Eastwood, Nuthall Tram Action Group) – are stepping up the campaign for the tram extension.

Significant interest continues to be attracted by this proposal – which would see in the first phase the tram be extended from Phoenix Park, through to Kimberley.  Additional support is now coming from colleagues in Amber Valley who wish to see a further extension in time through to Langley Mill and beyond.

The work is being pioneered primarily by Cllr Andy Cooper who is Chair of the local action group KENTAG.  We have secured a meeting with Nottinghamshire County colleagues on 9 September to discuss further progress, funding for feasibility studies etc alongside Broxtowe Borough Council.

For more information please contact the KENTAG Chair – Cllr Andy Cooper – andy.cooper@broxtowe.gov.uk

5)  Horse and Pony Protection Association

I have been asked to promote the work of the Horse and Pony Protection Association (HAPPA) – phone number 01281 455992. They deal with the welfare and protection of ponies: http://www.happa.org.uk

They do excellent work.

6)   New book covering history of Kimberley

Local Kimberley resident John Lee has produced a new edition of “A Brief History of Kimberley”, out earlier this year, and I don’t think many people actually know about it.  Available for £2.50 per copy including postage, or probably better, from either Rumbletum’s cafe on Newdigate Street, Kimberley, or the Children’s Society shop in Kimberley Precinct, for £2.00 per copy.

All proceeds from the latter two go to their respective charities.

More information from John Lee:  (07773 705009)

E: jands101@gmail.com

7)   Credit Unions – could you help out as a local volunteer for our area?

I’ve been talking this week with Jeff Buck at Rumbletums, who is keen to explore the possibility of exploring Credit Union facilities for the area.  At the moment we are looking at volunteers to help staff information and collection points.

For more information of how to get involved and about Credit Unions in general, and the  benefits they can bring contact Jeff Buck – http://rumbletumscafe.tel – or jeff.buck2768@btinternet.com

8)   Parking concerns, on the bend opposite the Kimberley School, Newdigate Street

I’ve raised again the continued problems during term time of parking on the corner opposite the school as above.  The County Council have responded that this section of Newdigate Street does have parking restriction improvement plans for this financial year.

Laura Trusler

Senior Highway Liaison Officer

9)   Local Labour Parliamentary Selections

Whilst I accept the 2015 General Election is not on the mind of every resident locally, Labour Party members in the East Midlands in some crucial seats have selected their parliamentary candidates.

In Broxtowe (who select tomorrow) – the short listed candidates are as follows:

Louise Reece-Jones, Greg Marshall, Atul Joshi, Nick McDonald and Nick Palmer.

(postscript – Sunday 4 August 2013 – Nick Palmer was selected yesterday as Labour’s Prospective Parliamentary Candidate for Broxtowe).

Other constituencies nearby have already selected their candidates – Catherine Atkinson in Erewash, Kevin Gillott in Amber Valley, and Leonie Mathers in Sherwood.

Gerry Hargreaves has a background of electrical installation and maintenance followed by considerable experience of energy monitoring providing technical support to the marketing division of East Midlands Electricity.

Projects throughout the UKhave included energy monitoring and data/billing analysis to assist companies to improve efficient use of energy. This has included disputes with electricity suppliers and distributors and site surveys, installation of temporary monitoring equipment and recommendations to install suitable power factor correction equipment. Site surveys for the installation of a M&T at major sites, have been undertaken and with the recent advances in remote monitoring technologies surveys and installation of GSM smart meters have been undertaken at distribution centres of a leading logistics company. A request by a leading UKenergy supplier has resulted in the installation of remote data collection technology, including planning and installation of remote data logging equipment to monitor and analyse usage data from geothermal sites within the UK. This work is ongoing in the development of renewable energy and low carbon technology.

Site visits and travel are significant reduced with the application of t-mac technology.
