Work in Broxtowe
Glenis Willmott MEP:
“Richard is an industrious and sympathetic Councillor, a hard working member of staff for a Labour MP, and a thoroughly reliable and committed Labour Party activist. He is continually looking for new ways of spreading Labour’s message, and his enthusiasm and good humour are also real assets.”
Richard has a high profile in his Kimberley & Cossall ward. This is gained through hard work; helping lots of people with individual casework matters – this can be anything from housing and debt problems, to getting disabled parking improved, sorting their benefits out etc.
Richard also has an excellent track record of campaigning on “issues” in his ward – & has a track record of getting results – this year he helped pioneer a Community Speedwatch scheme – encouraging volunteers to monitor speeding traffic in Kimberley “hotspots”. The aim of the scheme is to get drivers to reduce their speed. Both BBC East Midlands Today and Central ITV covered this story in January.
Last year he set up Eastwood Road Action Group (ERAG). ERAG have been very influential in persuading the County Council in Nottinghamshire to make road safety improvements in Kimberley.
Two years ago he worked closely with residents to prevent a mobile ‘phone mast being built near a junior school in Kimberley.
Richard is also working hard on two other “big issues” in Kimberley & Cossall – negotiating with Greene King to protect the housing status for residents who live in brewery houses. Also he has successfully pioneered a £500k project bringing a new flagship bus service to the area.
Richard also corresponds with a large number of his constituents via e mail. He has an e mail group which currently has over 820 members. These are issued monthly – and examples of his newsletters are shown below:
