Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update

& Information Service – February edition 2012

1)   David Blunkett comes to Broxtowe

Your chance to meet and and hear a talk by David Blunkett MP on Labour’s plan for jobs and growth.  David previously served as Home Secretary, Education Secretary and Work and Pensions Secretary.

This takes place at 7.30pm on Thursday 2nd February at Inham Nook Methodist Church in Pearson Avenue, Chilwell, NG9 4GQ.

Suggested donations are £5 waged and £2 unwaged

More information available from David Patrick:  david.patrick@yesagency.co.uk

Tel: 07941 213514

2)    Car Parking Charges in Kimberley

A review of the car parking charges on Victoria Street has taken place during the past 6 months.  Mary, Andy and myself have lobbied extremely  hard for the charge to be scrapped altogether, and have passed on all of the complaints we have had.  The provisional recommendations of the review look set to reduce the charge to £1 all day (which is a positive change), with the first hour still free (as it is now).  This is not however the result we were looking for.

Cabinet meeting at Broxtowe on 31 January will consider the final recommendations.  Should the new charge of £1 all day be approved then we Andy, Mary and myself will push for further reconsideration in a further six months time for total abolition of the charge.

This is a tedious process, and I know very frustrating for local residents.  The three of us will continue during the next 6 months to represent your concerns, and I think the message is clearly – “we need to persevere”.

Do continue to send in your comments and observations, as they do help us in our continual representations on your behalf.

3)   Kimberley Farmers Market – Saturday 4 February 2012 – 9am – 1pm Toll Bar Square Kimberley

It’s the first Saturday of the month next week, which means it’s Kimberley Farmers market again.

Do come along and support your local market!  We are looking to have 2 new traders this time, home made pizzas, and olives.

4)   What’s happening with the Cinema idea for the Kimberley area?

On Wednesday 11 January I a PR manager from one of the stores on Giltbrook Retail Park who is very interested with bringing a cinema to the area.  There’s more work going on in the background during the next few weeks and as soon as there is any definitive information I’ll let you know.

5)  Citizens Focus Group – what do you really think about politics and how can we improve?

There’s been an excellent response to this initiative, aimed at getting stuck into real “grassroots politics and issues” and encouraging people to get involved in a positive way, whether you have a particular political persuasion or alliance or not.

Nottingham Trent University for example have shown a specific interest and are arranging for a politics student to come along too.

The first “session”  is set for Tuesday 21 February 8pm at The Nelson & Railway Inn in Kimberley.  It will be informal and we’ll always encourage a friendly atmosphere!

I’ll be writing to all of you who have expressed an interest in coming, and if you still want to come, but have not responded yet, do let me know.

6)    Volunteers needed for new pressure group to oppose opencasting in Cossall & Trowell

Whilst the open casting issue that raised its head for a while a year or more ago appears to have gone “off the radar” for the time being, after talking with colleagues we need to be prepared for UK Coal to actively further their interest at any time.

In particular we need to keep abreast with requests to the County Council for Freedom of Information on developments, and also to form a new pressure group (as some previously leading members of CATAC - Cossall, Awsworth and Trowell Action Group against Open Casting) have moved away from this area.

If you are interested in getting involved, at any level please let me know.

7)  Maws Lane Resurfacing, Kimberley

Andy, Mary and me have all pressed for urgent treatment to be given to the road surface on Maws Lane, which lots of you have mentioned.  It looks as though the potholes have been repaired last week (without full resurfacing).  So much of the funding we require for more comprehensive schemes comes from the County Council and with all the cuts they are making, anything other than temporary repair (which I often think is counter-productive) is the best we can hope for.

We will of course keep pressing for further funding to be released and with the County Council elections on the horizon in 2013, hopefully a different administration run by Labour will be more receptive.

8)   Knowle Park Play Equipment

I’ve wrote about this a number of times before in my role as governor at Kimberley Primary school.

This is an excellent project including a number of partners including Kimberley Primary School, Kimberley Town Council, the County Council and Groundwork Greater Nottingham.

We should see, providing the final pieces of the jigsaw being put together during the next few weeks, a wide range of new play equipment on Knowle Park that will particuarly benefit the under 11s.  I have not yet got details of the actual start date for the works, when this is available I will let you know.

9)   Sign up for police, community and neighbourhood watch information

There’s a really useful on-line way of keeping up with local crime information – click on the link: https://www.neighbourhoodalert.co.uk/

to sign up to get detailed and up to date information in your own area.

10)   What’s happening with Kimberley Miners Welfare?

A number of you have asked about this having seen reports in the press.  I know people are concerned about the type of development suggested here, bearing in mind traffic and visibility issues.  As of yet I have had nothing confirmed after making some enquiries.  As soon as there is more definitive information I’ll let you know.

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update

& Information Service – January edition 2012

1)   Kimberley Connect

Lots of people in and around the Kimberley area have been asking what has happened to the Kimberley Connect magazine that used to be regularly delivered in the Nuthall, Kimberley area.  It appeared to be a very poplar source for local information.

I’ve managed to found out that Kimberley Connect has definitely stopped being published.  However a replacement for Kimberley Connect is now due to appear throughout our area I understand during 2012.  It will be bi-monthly, and it it is published by the people who produce the NG5 magazine.
If you would like further information or would like to advertise in the new magazine the phone number is 0115 926 9777, e-mail: info@ng5.org.uk

The postal address is: NG Magazines
2 Goodwood Avenue
Arnold
NG5 7BB

2)    Kimberley Farmers Market – Saturday 7 January 2012 – 9am – 1pm Toll Bar Square Kimberley

It’s the first Saturday of the month again on Saturday, which means it’s Kimberley Farmers market again.

Do come along and support your local market!

3)   Trent Barton 27 bus route/T1 Phoenix Flyer

A good number of you have been asking what has happened to the meetings that we organised with Anna Soubry MP towards the end of last year to see whether Trent Barton would consider a re-route for the existing 27 service (so it would cover the whole of the route that the T1 previously covered).

On 14 October 2011 Andy, Mary, Cllr Lydia Ball and myself met with Anna at her office in Chilwell in order to see what influence could be brought to bear on Trent Barton  because of the loss of service and detrimental affect in particular for Awsworth residents.

We’ve now had the official response from Trent Barton, which to say the least is disappointing.  In essence they are not interested.

The only hope we really have now of getting a positive outcome is looking at alternative ways of finding new funding for the previous T1 route.  I understand that this is a subject that is due to be discussed at Cabinet in Broxtowe at some point during the next few months.  When more information is available I will let you know.

In the meantime if you are adversely affected by the withdrawal of the T1 service do send us your details.  This will help us in future negotiations we have.

4)  Citizens Focus Group

There’s been an excellent response to this initiative, and I’m planning the first meeting for February.  Thanks to all of you who have expressed an interest.  I’ll publish the date in the February newsletter.

It’s not too late to register your interest though!

For those who have joined this e mail list recently, or who missed what this is all about, essentially after talking a resident in Cossall during October, I came up with the idea of setting up a Citizens Focus Group. We’ll meet up informally once every 2 months and disucss practical politics (looking at probably more national issues though). I get a lot of comments from people a whole host of issues including immigration, social services, energy, education, transport, housing, NHS, employment and IT.

The idea would be is that we would find a particular subject to discuss on each occasion, and exchange views and individual expertise. If we then come up with a practical proposal, we can send this to the appropriate body to be considered as a policy option.

I’m happy for people of varying (and of no) political persuasion to get involved, and really hope that this can be a real “grassroots” way of involving people in positive politics again. I’m sure whilst we will never always agree on everything we can enjoy a robust discussion, and even have some fun in the meantime.

I’ll confirm the venue too for February, I’m looking at a couple of venues in Kimberley at present.

5)    Car Parking Review in Kimberley

The decision to charge for car parking in Kimberley from April 2010 on Victoria Street has proved to be one of the most contentious and locally politically divisive ones in all of my years as a councillor.  There’s little benefit or wisdom in raking up old arguments now, other than to acknowledge the previous “impasse” between different sides.

Credit should go to Kimberley Town Council who have consistently maintained their opposition to the charging (and the affects of it).

Throughout last year I continued to receive lots of complaints from residents on Newdigate Street and Victoria Street who were suffering intolerable nuisance and damage with the extra congestion caused due to cars being parked on the narrow streets as opposed to the car park.

Victoria Street car park has remained virtually empty.

At Broxtowe Borough Council a review of the impact of the car parking charges in Eastwood, Kimberley & Stapleford has been undertaken, and this was reported to Cabinet on 20 December.

During the review Mary, Andy and myself argued for a complete lifting of the charges for Victoria Street, Kimberley.

I know the next few lines will appear very bureaucratic, but bear with me, as within local government these are the processes we have to work through!

The recommendations that have now come out of the review suggest that for Victoria Street car park (as now) the first hour should be free.  The big change being that for the rest of the day a flat rate charge of £1 be levied.  This is a substantial reduction from the current charge (but not of course free).

This suggestion will now go back to another committee (for final deliberation) who will then report back to Cabinet again.

My understanding is that this will take until April 2012 to reach a final decision and make any changes.

During the next few weeks Mary, Andy and myself will be writing to all residents of Newdigate Street and Victoria Street individually to sound out views on the proposed changes as highighted above.  We will then in turn ensure these are fed into the final decision making process.

If you have points you would like Mary, Andy and myself to raise, please do let us know by 31 January.

6)  D H Lawrence Heritage now open on Saturdays

Visitors to Eastwood’s Durban House and D H Lawrence Birthplace Museum can now celebrate the town’s most famous son all weekend after Saturday opening hours were introduced for the first time last October.

D H Lawrence Heritage is a multi-award winning visitor attraction based around two highly-acclaimed sites including the Birthplace Museum and Durban House Heritage Centre.

The attraction brings together a Museum, Heritage Centre, Gift Shop, Team Shop, Art Gallery and meeting room.

You can also get Sunday lunches from January too.

For full information please contact D H Lawrence Heritage on 01773 717353, culture@broxtowe.gov.uk or visit www.dhlawrenceheritage.org

7)  Keeping up Appearances Grant Scheme (Broxtowe Borough Council)

The Keeping up Appeareances Grant Scheme was a very popular scheme designed to improve retail and commercial properities across the borough. What it did was to contribute up to £2000 (50% matched funded) to the costs of extrernal improvements and repairs.

I know of several shops and businesses in Kimberley that previously benefited from this scheme, with improvements to shop windows etc.

Despite the exceedingly tough financial restraints facing the council (and having to temporarily withdraw the scheme) at the Cabinet meeting of 8 November a new scheme has been approved allowing £13,000 to be bid for by local businesses across the borough.

If you have a local business in Broxtowe and are interested in bidding for the funding, please get in touch and I can send you all of the appropriate details.

Kimberley, Awsworth, Cossall & Trowell News Update & Information Service – December 2011

1

Hi all

A warm welcome to December’s newsletter.  This month’s edition is a wee bit shorter; I’m currently waiting responses on a number of initiatives including Cinema in Kimberley.  I think people have their minds on other things, approaching the Christmas season!

Can I take this opportunity to wish all readers a happy and peaceful Christmas and healthy new New Year.

Thanks to all for your continued feedback, comment and support during the past 12 months, without all of this it would make the job of being a councillor a lot harder!

I’m sure there will be lots of challenges for 2012, and I’m certainly looking forward to them.

We’ll be back in January with the next newsletter.

As ever, if you need help or advice on anything including personal casework, do let Andy, Mary or myself know, and don’t wait until January to get in touch!

best regards

Richard

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update

 & Information Service – December edition 2011

1)   Kimberley Farmers Market – Saturday 3 December plus extra Christmas market on Saturday 17 December

It’s the first Saturday of the month again on Saturday, which means it’s Kimberley Farmers market.   We’ve got a free prize draw – with a chance to win a luxury hamper.

We’ve also got a special additional Christmas market on Saturday 17 December.

The markets are held at Toll Bar Square, Kimberley and run between 9am and 1pm.

Do come along and support your local market!

2) Citizens Focus Group

After talking a resident in Cossall during October, I came up with the idea of setting up a Citizens Focus Group.  Essentially what I’d like to do is see whether we can establish a group of say up to 20 people (more if necessary) in the area who would like to meet up informally once every 2 months and disucss practical politics (looking at probably more national issues though).

The idea would be to start in January and meet at The Nelson & Railway, on a two-monthly basis, as indicated above.

If you are interested in getting involved, please drop me a line, and we can get this set up for the first meeting in January 2012.

3)   Rumbletums

This Saturday 3 December (7.30pm to 10.30pm) – There is an “Open Mic” night for young people with disabilities, their friends and families. Bring your own CD’s, MP3’s and sing, dance, tell jokes or whatever.

More information available from jeff.buck2768@btinternet.com

4)    D H Lawrence Heritage now open on Saturdays

Visitors to Eastwood’s Durban House and D H Lawrence Birthplace Museum can now celebrate the town’s most famous son all weekend after Saturday opening hours were introduced for the first time in October.

For full information please contact D H Lawrence Heritage on 01773 717353, culture@broxtowe.gov.uk or visit www.dhlawrenceheritage.org

5)   Car Boot Sale at Kimberley Parish Hall, Newdigate Street

Kimberley Town council are holding an Indoor car boot sales on Saturday 3 December  between 10am and 12 noon.

More information available from from Cllr Dot Saxton dotsaxton@virginmedia.com

6)    Keeping up Appearances Grant Scheme (Broxtowe Borough Council)

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell – News update & Information Service – November 2011

2

Hi all

Plenty again to get through ready for November.

Thanks to all those who’ve been in touch over the past week, on all sorts of issues including lots of support for the idea for a cinema in the area.  This really seems to have gone down very well; I’ve passed all of the information onto the brewery owner, and I’m due to meet the Regional Manager of Giltbrook Retail Park later this week.  I’ll feed back further information as this comes available.

As ever, if you need help or advice on anything including personal casework, do let Andy, Mary or myself know.

best regards

Richard

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update

 & Information Service – November edition 2011

1)   Ilkeston Railway Station

Long time members of this e mail list will be know that alongside Mary and Andy, I’m a big supporter and strong advocate of public transport.

I know this may probably appeal more specifically to readers of the newsletter in Trowell and Cossall.

For many years now there has been talk of a railway station in Ilkeston and most recently, earlier this month, Councillors on the Labour Group on Erewash Borough Council put a motion to their Full Council asking for the necessary investment to draw up plans to share with funders. This was defeated by the ruling Tories, however there’s a campaign being drawn up to try and keep up the momentum, and I’ve been asked to help raise the profile.

If you would like more information please contact Cllr Clare Neill:

clare_e_neill@hotmail.com

0115 9464744
07864 946538

2)  Kimberley Farmers Market – Saturday 5 November

It’s the first Saturday of the month again, which means it’s Kimberley Farmers market.  We’ve got some new traders this month including meat (Smith Hall of Ashbourne), and a new fruit and veg stall.

Do come along – it’s a great chance to catch up with friends and neighbours!

3) Citizens Focus Group

After talking a resident in Cossall earlier this month, I came up with the idea of setting up a Citizens Focus Group.  Essentially what I’d like to do is see whether we can establish a group of say up to 20 people (more if necessary) in the area who would like to meet up informally once every 2 months and disucss practical politics (looking at probably more national issues though).

The idea would be to start in January and meet at The Nelson & Railway, on a two-monthly basis, as indicated above.

If you are interested in getting involved, please drop me a line, and we can get this set up for the first meeting in January 2012.

 4)  Free football during November

There’s an opportunity for men over the age of 35 to get active during November as Broxtowe Borough Council slashes the prices of the weekly men’s football sessions by offering free admission throughout November.

The council will waive its normal admission charges for its weekly sessions at the Eastwood Community Sports Centre on Mansfield Road, Eastwood, with sessions taking place every Tuesday (7.00pm – 8.00pm) in partnership with the Mars “Just Play” initiative.

Each session is a casual kick-about and there is no coaching involved.  Sessions take place on an astroturf surface and participants are asked to wear either trainers or astroturf trainers, rather than football boots.

Participants can either turn up on the evening or secure their place in advance. For more information, please contact Broxtowe Sport on 0115 917 3572, email sport@broxtowe.gov.uk or visit www.broxtowe.gov.uk/football

5)    The Midlands German Shepherd Rescue Centre

The Midlands German Shepherd Rescue Centre are holding their Christmas Fayre on the Saturday 12 November 2011.  There are stalls, a raffle, tombola, refreshments, with activities for the whole family.

This takes place at Its from 10.30 am to 4 pm and the address is:

Midlands GSD Rescue Centre
North Lodge Kennels
Kings Corner
Derby
DE21 4RG

More information available from Kimberley resident Sarah Pykett:
sarap1@hotmail.co.uk

6)   Christmas Light Switch on Kimberley – Friday 18 November – Toll Bar Square

Organised by the local town council, this is taking place this year I’m told between approximately 5 30 and 8 30pm – lights switch on at 7 00pm with carol singers accompanying.

7)   Pot Hole Repairs in Giltbrook, Eastwood, Nuthall, Awsworth, Cossall, Trowell & Kimberley

For many months now Andy, Mary and myself have reported road areas in Kimberley & Cossall that need attention and repair.

I’m showing below a list of roads we reported on to the Highways Dept at Broxtowe on 25 July and the response we’ve had showing progress to date is shown below:

Road name Last inspected Defects generated Repairs completed
Broxtowe Ave June yes yes
Valley Rd July yes yes
Digby Ave Inspection due December
Jubilee St June yes yes
Hardy St Aug and Sept yes yes
Dorchester Rd Sept yes yes
Lulworth Ct Sept yes yes
Town View Sept yes yes
Coatsby Rd Sept no
High St/Church Hill monthly yes yes
Maws La monthly yes yes
Little La April no no
Nottingham Rd monthly   resurfaced Sept
Ruislip Cl Oct yes yes
Alma Hill May yes yes
Edgewood Rd Jul and Sept yes yes
Rockside Jul and Sept yes yes
Kimberley Cl Jul and Oct yes yes
Knowle La Sept no no
Branklene Cl August no no

Now having looked at some of these areas I’m not convinced that all repairs have been carried out.  I have therefore found out the following information, where you can report directly to Broxtowe and the County Council areas that need attention:

  • Individual residents can report concerns via the NCC contact centre number 08449 808080 and get it recorded in the NCC Confirm system.
  • This automatically generates an inspection via Broxtowe’s inspection team. It also generates a unique customer reference number.
  • The inspection findings are reported back via the Confirm system.  Should the enquirer request a reply once inspected, they can receive either an e-mail, letter reply, or someone will ring them back.
  • Potential defects reported this way are all recorded in Confirm and add strength to the case for a resurfacing scheme. Future annual maintenance programmes are based upon this information.

Classified road complaints (which includes Maws Lane)

  • Classified roads are routinely inspected monthly. Complaints generate additional inspections.
  • Unless there is a catastrophic road failure, no defect will go un-noticed/unattended for more than 4 weeks.
  • It is likely that a potential defect has already been noted by the inspector (but not yet marked) for future attention as and when it becomes repairable.
  • Several staff members drive Maws Lane daily and would report any new defects
  • It is high on our list for (hopefully) next years maintenance programme

This information has been derived from:

John Emsley
Highways Manager

Broxtowe Borough Council
Directorate of Environment
(Built Environment)
Kimberley Depot
Eastwood Road
Kimberley, Nottingham, NG16 2HX

Tel:  0115 9173045    john.emsley@broxtowe.gov.uk

If you have a pothole or road/pavement surface that needs attention, you can report it therefore directly on tel: 08449 808080.

If you have any particular problems, do let me know.  Alternatively you can ‘phone John Emsley – as above for further technical help.

Let me know too how you get on with reporting areas that need attention and what progress there is.  If necessary Andy, Mary and myself can add our influence as appropriate.

8)   One-way traffic issues – High Street, Kimberley (possible trial of light controlled system).

Members of this list for some while will remember all of the work that was done last year and before then to try and persuade the County Council to take meaningful action.  I still receive regular complaints of dangerous driving and drivers continually flouting the one way system along High Street.

We are going to have another attempt to try and persuade the County Council to consider a trial of a light controlled system (that would in effect allow traffic to flow 2 way along High Street.  This is being led by Mary – and to ask further questions, lend your support please e mail her or phone her (contact details given above at the top of this mail).

9)     A610 road noise & resurfacing

Another long standing issue, which affects well over 300 people in Kimberley.  When I was County Cllr in addition to Borough Cllr (back in 2003) I managed to persuade the County Council to take some noise measurements in Kimberley on Hayley Close (one of the worst affected roads) regarding the vehicle noise.  It then registered above 65db and I was told that “in time” quieter road resurfacing would be applied (that would in turn reduce the noise levels by up to 4db).

Since then there has been a continual battle to try and get the County Council to commit to this work.  Countless requests year on year have been met with stubborn resistance, I even remember visiting the County Council together with Nick Palmer to try and get some sense of all this, all to no avail.

I’ve been approached by residents about this again recently, and as the County Council are so slow to act, then we’ve decided to use our own initiative.  Two residents are taking their own noise monitoring measures.  We will then present them to the County Council together with other evidence.  Again Mary is leading on this, and her contact details are shown above, for any questions, or comments.

10)   Good quality second hand goods & furniture unwanted?

Please contact Denise at the Hope Charity Project Shop in Kimberley (next to the Post Office) – denise@outreachchurch.co.uk

 11)   Foil recycling

Broxtowe residents can now recycle used foil packaging & food & drink cans with the introduction of four local recycling centres, the nearest to us being in Eastwood and Kimberley.

There are now four metal package recycling banks throughout Broxtowe and the two in the north of the borough are situated at Sainsbury’s supermarket in Greens Lane Kimberley and Morrison’s supermarket in Eastwood.

12)  News in brief

a) Don’t lose your right to vote!  Up to 11,000 residents in the borough of Broxtowe have not yet returned electoral registration forms.  Those who do not complete the forms will not be able to vote for next year’s Police Commissioner Elections, or any other elections that could take place in Broxtowe next year.

Letter from Notts County Counci

Kimberley, Awsworth, Cossall & Trowell News Update & Information Service – mid October 2011 edition

0

Hi all

A warm welcome to all those that have joined during the last four weeks.

There’s a lot of information and news been brought to my attention recently so I thought I’d better issue another newsletter now rather than leave it until the end of the month.  Also some local events happening next week too.

As ever, if you need help or advice on anything including personal casework, do let Andy, Mary or myself know.

best regards

Richard

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update

& Information Service –mid October edition 2011

1)   Information event for local residents

On Wednesday 26 October at the Parish Hall, on Newdigate Street Kimberley between 1pm and 3pm representatives of various organisations incuding the Pensions Service, Healthy Homes, Broxtowe Borough Council, local Community Health Service will be holding a roadshow and information session.

You will be able to ask questions and get advice from professionals on a wide range of subjects.

More information is available from Jayne Fletcher –  0115 917 3657 – Communities Officer – Broxtowe Borough Council – jayne.fletcher@broxtowe.gov.uk

2)  Ryan Lee Trust – Beauty & Pamper Evening

The Ryan Lee Trust Charity  is holding a Beauty & Pamper Evening on Wednesday 26 October at Kettlebrook Lodge, Kimberley.  Ladies – probably one for you!

Doors open to the public at 7 30pm.

There will be a wide range of treatments available with beautician and hairdressers offering their services alongside cake, chocolates wine and a pay bar.

Many of you may already know about the Ryan Lee Trust which provides support, vital equipment and assistance for children and their families diagnosed with a terminal or life threatening illness.  It was set up by Kimberley residents Shaun & Debbie Lee last year following the tragic death of their teenage son Ryan.

More information available from Deb Lee -  ryanleetrust@btinternet.com or

0797 6737 331

3) Kimberley Road, Nuthall – proposed removal of bus lane

I’ve been approached by a number of residents who are concerned at the County Council’s proposals to remove the bus lane betweeen Larkfield Road and St Patrick’s Church Nuthall.

If you click on this link: C:\Users\Richard Robinson\Desktop\xfer\bx folder\scan0003.jpg  (I’ve tried it and I think it works!) – if not let me know and I can send you the information separately.

Essentially the County Council are claiming that by removing the bus lane and instead placing hatching and pedestrian refuges, it will make it both safer by reducing speed and promoting safety.

Immediate responses I have had from residents have suggested otherwise!

If you would like to comment, you can send me your details and I am happy to pass them on.  Alternatively you can e mail direct nick.gibson@nottscc.gov.uk by 14 November.

 4)  T1 Bus Service

The service stopped running last week and Andy, Mary and myself sought to gain the support of Anna Soubry MP to see whether any other bus company would be prepared to replicate the T1 route all the way from Ilkeston through to Phoenix Park.

The three of us plus Cllr Lydia Ball from Awsworth met Anna Soubry last Friday and she agreed to contact Trent Barton to see if the 27 service can be changed to accommodate the whole of the route that the T1 ran.

If this happens this would no doubt benefit people in the Cliff Blvd, Hardy Street area – as the 27 currently services people here.

Once more information is available I’ll let you know.

(thanks to all of you who have been in touch during the past couple of weeks on this matter).

5)   Lorry watch – Hardy Street, Maws Lane, High Spannia -Kimberley

Many of you in the Kimberley area have raised concerns about the amount of Heavy Goods Vehicle traffic using the Cliff Boulevard, Maws Lane, Hardy Street etc area for some time.

Andy, Mary and myself were pleased when the County Council finally agreed to take some action to try and deter the frequency of HGV.  You may have seen the signage that has been put in place in a number of locations.  I reported a couple of months back about the additional general plans the County Council were putting in place.

Following recent complaints of HGV not adhering to the new guidelines I approached the County Council again and they’ve sent information on a lorry watch scheme.

Please see

http://www3.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/atoz/l/lorries-weight-limits/

and also -

http://www3.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/travelling/roads/traffic-management/bridges-lorries-and-abnormal-loads/lorry-watch/

The lorry watch scheme is one that is designed to encourage residents who reside in an area affected by breaches of a weight restriction, to report any such breaches to the County Council, so that can then use the information supplied appropriately, such as to plan an enforcement day.

I understand a lorry watch scheme requires ‘setting up’, which may or may not be feasible, dependent on various factors.  However we don’t have to have a lorry watch scheme in order to report possible breaches.  This can done by filling out the form at

http://www3.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/travelling/roads/traffic-management/bridges-lorries-and-abnormal-loads/lorry-watch/

If you want any more information on a lorry watch scheme – please contact

Dean Taylor  Trading Standards Officer, tel 01623 452005 dean.taylor@nottscc.gov.uk

6)   Rumbletums

The café has been set up to offer training and work experience opportunities to young adults with learning disabilities. It is a not-for-profit social enterprise and is run entirely by volunteers, many of them parents of disabled youngsters.

All of the food served at the café is made on the premises and it’s already gained a reputation for excellent cakes and coffee.

Rumbletums is currently open from 10.00 to 3.00 on Friday and Saturday with Thursday opening coming at the beginning of November. It is hoped that the café will be open on five or six days a week from the start of the New Year.

More information is available from jeff.buck2768@btinternet.com

7)   Christmas Light Switch on Kimberley – Friday 18 November – Toll Bar Square

Organised by the local town council, this is taking place this year I’m told between approximately 5 30 and 8 30pm – lights switch on at 7 00pm with carol singers accompanying.

8)    Cinema complex for Giltbrook Retail Park or Kimberley Brewery site?

I’ve received several enquiries this week one from people wanting to see a cinema complex on one of the two sites above.  The other was on behalf of an organisation wanting a heritage museum and education centre for the history of the ambulance services in Nottinghamshire (this was specifically for the brewery site).

I’ve passed all of the requests onto the owners of the respective sites.

A year or so back there were some enquiries about a cinema complex – I passed these on, and it was not considered feasible at the time.  I find it interesting though that there’s a renewed interest now in this.

I’d like to gauge a wider feeling from local residents.  What would be your thoughts on such a development?  Would this work on the Retail Park or the Brewery Site?  Do send in your views, and then Andy, Mary and myself can feed this back further to the respective parties.

9)   White Ribbon Campaign

I’ve been asked by Broxtowe Women’s Project to pass on the following information:

………..Calling out for volunteers!

I am Michelle the Information & Support Worker for Broxtowe Women’s Project Ltd. I am responsible for the co-ordination of our displays and publicity. My main role for the White Ribbon Campaign is to raise awareness and distribute information in our local community during the campaign period which is from 25th November to 10th December each year.

This year we have booked a place in the foyer of Sainsbury’s supermarket in Kimberley for Thursday 1st December from 10am to 3pm.  We are asking for support from anyone committed to raising awareness of domestic violence to assist with staffing the stall.  This could be for as little as an hour, or more than this if you can spare the time.  Our staff will be involved on a rota basis, so the stall will be staffed by BWP at all times, but we would love to have a multi-agency approach!  It will involve standing by our mobile display, and encouraging anyone approaching the stall to take some information and wear a white ribbon in support of the campaign. We are particularly keen to raise awareness among men and boys.

‘Wear a white ribbon, to pledge that you will never commit, condone or remain silent about violence against women. The reason for this is that if a young man sees that his role model condemns violence against women, then he is likely to follow suit’

If you are not familiar with The White Ribbon Campaign below is a little information:

In 1991, a handful of men in Canada decided they had a responsibility to urge men to speak out against violence against women. They decided that wearing a white ribbon would be a symbol of men’s opposition to men’s violence against women. After only six weeks preparation, as many as one hundred thousand men across Canada wore a white ribbon many others were drawn into discussion and debate on the issue of men’s violence. There are now White Ribbon Campaigns operating in many countries around the world.

The UK Branch of WRC was started in 2004.

Each year, we urge men and boys to wear a ribbon for one or two weeks, starting on November 25, the International Day for the Eradication of Violence Against Women

By all means if you have any queries on the above or wish to put your name down to support our stall then please do get in touch with myself (Michelle) via admin line: 01773 718555 or

Email: enquiries@broxtowewomensproject.org.uk

Hi all

A warm welcome to October’s newsletter.

Many apologies for not issuing a September newsletter.  No I have not emigrated! What with coming back from holiday at the end of August, website & IT problems, catching up with work and a thousand other things, I thought it best to try and get October’s out nice and early, rather than rush through one for this month.

Hope you find the information below helpful.  There’s lots to get through so I won’t waffle on further.

As ever f you do need any help, advice or assistance on anything, do let either Andy, Mary or myself know.

best regards

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update & Information Service – October 2011

1)   Giltbrook Retail Park  (GRP)

I met with Regional Centre Manager on 15 September to talk through a number of initiatives concerning GRP.

Incidentally next spring Nandos and Pizza Express are opening on site.

One of the key matters we talked about though was the availability of funding for local regeneration initiatives in the Kimberley, Awsworth, Giltbrook area that would benefit our local communities.  This money comes via British Land.

We are allowed to make a number of bids, and my intention is once these have been made to ask youngsters from The Kimberley School to design power point presentations to pass to British Land alongside all of the detailed plans that will  be drawn up.

So, if you are part of a community group, church, charity, school that needs some funding, or have ideas of how several thousand pounds could be spent that would really help regenerate the local area I would be very pleased to hear from you.

If you could send your ideas to me, no later than 18 October, then I can start to pull all of the information together.

2) KimberleyFarmers Market – Saturday 1 October

The next Farmers Market is next Saturday between 9am and 1pm – Toll Bar Square,
Kimberley.  Do come and support your local market!

We have children from Kimberley Primary School singing between 10 and 10 30.  Do come along and give your support!

3)  T1 Bus Service

On 15 September I was informed by Premiere Travel that the T1 is to cease operating altogether from 15 October.

Having put so much effort into getting this bus service started, going back to 2007 and 2008 this is not something naturally I am pleased about.  I also am aware that a growing number of people who are now using the bus service will naturally be inconvenienced.

I have talked in depth to representatives of Premiere Travel and to be honest they have stated that the decision taken by Trent Barton to divert the 27 intoGiltbrookRetailPark, and also reducing some of the fares they charge to in some cases only £1, has certainly not helped.  As the T1 does not make a profit though, they have said they are unable to continue to provide a service after 15 October.

In an attempt to try and see whether there is any way that the County Council can help salvage at least part of the service I have emphasised in particular the affect on places like Awsworth & Cossall.  The County Council do review any commercial service withdrawal and look at the impact on the communities involved, and examine whether any other opportunities exist to replace the lost services.

The feedback I have received from the County Council is that it would be problematic to directly replace the T1 as this would see the County Council providing a competing service alongside the Trent Barton services 27 and Rainbow 1.  It may be possible to get Trent Barton  to amend their services, or more likely to develop a through ticketing arrangement to facilitate changing services at Kimberley.

I would now like your feedback.   How big a blow is this to the local area? How inconvenienced are you going to be when the T1 stops?  What other points would you raise?

I’ll collate all of the information and then feed this back to the County Council before 15 October.

4)  Rumbletums

Rumbletums Community Café opened onVictoria StreetinKimberleyon 2nd July this year.

5)      Pavement and road inspections – Kimberley

I reported previously that on 18 July, Andy Mary and I met with Highways Inspectors to examine some of the worst affected pot holes inKimberleyincluding Ruislip Close,Maws Lane,Hardy Street,KimberleyClose, Jubilee Street,Lulworth Court.  There were plenty of other areas and I’ll try and get an update by November on progress on getting repairs authorised.

If there are any areas in Cossall that need attention, please do let us know.

6)    Parliamentary Boundary Review

The current parliamentary boundaries throughout theUnited Kingdomare currently being reviewed.  Presently Broxtowe as far as the current parliamentary constituency is concerned includes Giltbrook, Greasley andKimberleyin the north down through Trowell, Stapleford and Beeston and then to Toton and Attenborough in the southern most part.  The recommendations if they are passed would see the next General Election fought on the new boundaries, which is anticipated to be in 2015.

You might have seen some of the details in the Nottingham Post over the past couple of weeks.

It has been recommended as far as Broxtowe is concerned that Gotham(near junction 24 of the M1) be part of a new Broxtowe constituency.  The full details (including all of the changes proposed for the East Midlands) can be found at http://orderorder.files.wordpress.com/2011/09/2011_08_23_em_online.pdf

You have your chance to have your say on the proposals for Broxtowe.  You have until 5 December 2011 to do this.  Comments can be made via e mail to: eastmidlands@bcommengland.x.gsi.gov.uk

7)    What’s the latest on a) the Kimberley Brewery Site   b) Kimberley Police Station front counter?

First on the brewery site, I attended a meeting of SOBS (Save our Brewery) on 19 September.

Present there was the owner of the site Mr Rafiq Vindhani and he indicated that there had been interest from a number of parties about possible development, with talks continuing “behind the scenes”.   Nothing has been agreed upon yet.

Together with Mary and Andy, the three of us are working with youngsters at The Kimberley School to design a “vision plan” for the site and for wider regeneration in the local area.

This work should be completed by the end of the year.

On the police station front counter issue inKimberley, I attended the public meeting that took place earlier in September at the Parish Hall.

The clear message that the police representatives gave at the meeting (and since in discussions I have had) is that the position regardingKimberleyis still under review.

When there is more definitive information I’ll let you know.

8)   Village SOS

Another funding opportunity!

Over the last few weeks Village SOS – a prime-time BBC TV series – has been following the journeys of six UK villages as they each use a Big Lottery Fund grant to start up a community enterprise that they hope will breathe new life into their local area.

The TV programme may have ended, but don’t forget that the Village SOS Competition is still open! With 250 awards of between £10,000 and £30,000 available, we really want communities across theEast Midlandsto participate in this fantastic opportunity to regenerate their villages. We’re looking to support inspiring business ideas that will bring people together to tackle the challenges they face.

The entry requirements are:

·         Your idea must be for a community enterprise.

·         Your village must be in a rural area and have fewer than 3,000 people living in it.

·         We can only accept one entry per village

You need to be a Village SOS member to enter the competition so visit  http://www.villagesos.org.uk/competition

for more details or call the advice line on 0845 434 9123. Entry forms need to be submitted by 5pm on Thursday 20 October so don’t delay!

9)   Nottingham & District Pre-Retirement Council (NDRPC)

I’ve been asked by NDRPC to make you aware of their activities.

Proposals to reform the state pension

There are proposals for reforms to the State Pension which have been unveiled.  The aim is to ensure the State Pension can meet the needs of future pensioners and to tackle complexity within the current State Pension System.

The government is intending to raise the state pension age to 66 by 2020 and this will affect five million people and simply does not give them enough time to plan.  About 2.6 million women will have to wait at least a year longer for their state pension because of the change and the plan to speed up the rate at which their state pension age is increased to 65 years, in line with men’s.

Among these, there are 330,000 women who will have to wait an extra 18 months to two years before they can start drawing benefit.  Those forced to wait two years will lose an average of £10,000 of their state pension income.

If these plans become law, they will leave women with little time to prepare for their retirement.  That is why we recommend attendance on a Pre-Retirement Course to those within 3/5 years of retirement.

The Nottingham & District Pre-Retirement council is a not for profit making Registered Charity (505899) and have been helping people approaching retirement since it’s inception in 1967.  All our volunteer Course Directors are retired, so they can give first hand experience, tips and information.

To book a place or request an Information Pack, please contact the Nottingham & District Pre-Retirement Council on Nottingham0115 922 3824 or visit their website: www.ndprc.org.uk

The State Pension proposals will be available during the course in text form and will be fully explained by the Pension Speaker.

Dates of next courses (with places available) are:-

21,22,23 November  2011

23,24,25 January 2012, then every month

All courses held atBeestonTown Hall.

Places can be booked on line, via e mail, or telephone 0115 922 3824.

Click the link for Courses and then press “on line booking form” on the left hand column.

There will be a cost involved, to cover the lunches, refreshments, resource pack, hand-outs and room hire etc., but this is born by employers as delegates will be attending during their working hours.

10)   Sale of Kimberley Miners Welfare

I have had some concern expressed about the affect of possible developments in future on the site of Kimberley Miners Welfare onEastwood Road.  In summary with the parking problems on nearby Jubilee andTruman Street, it would be important to ensure any future development does not aggravate matters for residents ofEastwood Roadand the surrounding areas.

I have not been told of any plans to develop the site yet, but will of course bear all of these comments in mind when considering any specific application for development.

Gerry Hargreaves has a background of electrical installation
and maintenance followed by considerable experience of energy monitoring
providing technical support to the marketing division of East Midlands
Electricity.

Projects throughout the UKhave included energy monitoring
and data/billing analysis to assist companies to improve efficient use of
energy. This has included disputes with electricity suppliers and distributors
and site surveys, installation of temporary monitoring equipment and
recommendations to install suitable power factor correction equipment.

Site surveys for the installation of a M&T at major
sites, have been undertaken and with the recent advances in remote monitoring
technologies surveys and installation of GSM smart meters have been undertaken
at distribution centres of a leading logistics company.

A request by a leading UKenergy supplier has resulted in the installation of remote data collection
technology, including planning and installation of remote data logging
equipment to monitor and analyse usage data from geothermal sites within the UK. This work
is ongoing in the development of renewable energy and low carbon technology.
Site visits and travel are significant reduced with the application of t-mac

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update & Information Service – August 2011

0

Hi all
A warm welcome to August’s newsletter.

I’ve made this month’s report is a bit briefer than usual.  There’s still lots of projects and work going on behind the scenes of course, but with holiday period upon us then things do tend to progess a little slower.  Plus – I am taking a break for part of this August!

If you do need any help, advice or assistance on anything, do let either Andy, Mary or myself know.

best regards

Richard

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update & Information Service – August 2011

1) Free Swimming in Broxtowe during August

By way of background – free swimming within Broxtowe came into operation for those aged 60 plus from April 2009 and for 16 years and under from November 2009. The scheme was to have run through to 31 March 2011 but on 17 June 2010 the Coalition Government announced that the free swimming programme was to cease with effect from 31 July 2010 as part of its cut backs.  This Council did manage to fund an extension of the free swim programme until 5 September 2010.

Despite all of the cuts and pressures on local council’s. for the month of August this year, residents of Broxtowe Borough aged 15 and under, or over 60 will be able to swim for free.

The council will offer free swimming to qualifying borough residents in receipt of a valid junior or concessionary Broxtowe Leisure Card throughout August at its Bramcote and Kimberley Leisure Centres.

Junior and concessionary Broxtowe Leisure Cards, which are available free of charge to borough residents, will provide access to the free swim scheme throughout August.

For more information and to apply for your Broxtowe Leisure Card today, please download the application form at www.broxtowe.gov.uk/leisure or visit your local leisure centre.

2) Kimberley Farmers Market – Saturday 6 August

The next Farmers Market is next Saturday between 9am and 1pm – Toll Bar Square,
Kimberley.  Do come and support your local market!

We have a committee of a few dedicated volunteers who put a
great deal of time into making Kimberley Farmers Market happen. We hugely enjoy
our work, and we are always pleased to receive feedback and suggestions for
further improvements to the market.
Do let me know if you have any comments or would like to
join the Farmers Market committee – we are a small, but very friendly team!

If you haven’t been down to the market before, give us a try
this Saturday! You are bound to come across someone you know, and it’s a great
chance to have a natter. Kimberley Farmers Markets are on the first Saturday of
the month, and are booked up to and including December this year.

3) Summer Fayre – Midlands German Shepherd Dog Rescue Centre

I’ve been asked to let you know about the summer fayre on Saturday 13 August 2011 at the Midlands GSD Rescue Centre, North Lodge kennels, Kings Corner, Derby DE21 4RG from 10.30 to 4pm.

There are stalls, take time for a drink and a cake have a go on the raffle and tombola.  It is a day for the whole family including the 4 legged family members.

More information available from Kimberley resident Sarah Pykett sarap1@hotmail.co.uk

4) Review of Car Parking charges, Kimberley

The subject of car parking charges affecting the whole of Broxtowe is subject to a review over the coming months and on Friday 29 July Andy (Cllr Cooper) alerted the first meeting of the review group at Broxtowe about the particular difficulties that we experience in Kimberley (especially for Newdigate and Victoria Street residents) because of the charge.  Andy, Mary and myself will campaign vigorously throughout the length of the review to try and get the charge for Victoria Streetcar park removed.  We appreciate the financial pressures and constraints that Broxtowe as all council’s are under.  Essentially though we will argue that with the income being generated from Kimberley in terms of revenue from the car parking being so little, this far outweighs the huge disadvantages to nearby residents in terms of congestion.  It’s also quite clear as well, that during the week, during the day the car park is more often than not virtually empty!

As soon as more information is available we will let you know.

5)    T1 Bus Services – Ilkeston – Cossall, Awsworth, Kimberley – Nuthall – Phoenix Park

Some of you will know that Veolia no longer run the T1 Bus Service, and that this is now operated by Premiere Travel.

A number of people have been in touch during the past two weeks asking about the changes that are taking place.  I have spoken with Premiere and they have indicated that the revisions they are making – ie to stop the Sunday service and evening services are due to feedback from the drivers that the bus is less well used then.

Whilst I would much prefer the services to remain, in view of the very difficult economic climate and the cut backs lots of companies are continuing to make in various areas, I would much prefer to see the T1 remain even running reduced services, rather than lose it altogether.  I have lots of feedback from people in Awsworth who find the service particularly useful, and I know that overall the fares that Premiere charge are fairly competitive.

Due to requests I do continue to receive from residents in Kimberley I have asked Premiere to consider a day time route for the T1 up Maws Lane with one of their smaller buses.  I’m due to talk with them again next week and I will let you know when I have more information.

If anyone wants direct contact with Premiere – you can contact Andrew Yeo

Ayeo@premiere-travel.co.uk

6)   Pavement and road inspections – Kimberley

On 18 July, Andy, Mary and myself met with Highways Inspectors to examine some of the areas with the worst affected pot holes in Kimberley - these included Main Street (Nine Corners), Hardy Street, Maws Lane, Nottingham Road (near Stagg Inn), Church Hill/High Street, Broxtowe Avenue, Jubilee Street, Kimberley Close, Dorchester Road/Lulworth Court and Edgwood Road.

Due to cut backs in County Council funding then work taken to improve these and other areas will certainly not be as quick as we would like.  In some cases we may have to wait up to 18 months from now, before any noticeable improvements are seen.

However the areas mentioned are now basically in the queue for improvements and Andy, Mary and myself will keep a close eye on things to make sure this is done as quickly as possible.

If there are any other areas you would like us to bring to the attention of the Higjhways Department please let us know (and especially in Cossall) – as I’m aware we did not cover anything here last week.

7)   Ryan Lee Trust

Many of you will know about the tragic death of young Ryan Lee last year from brain tumours.  A trust has been set up: The Ryan Lee Trust – and this provides support, vital equipment and assistance for children and their families diagnosed with a terminal or life threatening illness.

I’ve been asked by Ryan’s mum Debbie Lee to see if there is anyone that can offer any help or expertise with  fundraising for the Charity or additionally any other skills or experience that they could volunteer to help promote their work.

If anyone has a few hours a week spare to help with the administrative side of the Trust, it would be very helpful.  To contact Debbie – it’s deblee67@btinternet.com or 0797 6737 331.

8)  Summer Play Days in Broxtowe

Families across Broxtowe Borough are being invited to enjoy a summer programme of four play days on offer in Beeston, Eastwood, Stapleford andKimberleythroughout August.

Broxtowe Borough Council will provide four summer play opportunities, offering children the chance to have fun, start adventuring and get creative across the borough.

Each Play Day will offer a range of ‘have a go’ activities, including face painting, circus skills and drumming workshops. Come along and have a go at the space hopper challenge and enjoy the large scale inflatables and giant slide. Get creative and contribute to the large animal sculpture.

There will also be plenty of make and take activities, a petting zoo, sports activities and puppet shows to enjoy, as well as BMX and KMX workshops. Anyone taking part in the BMX and KMX workshops will be required to complete a parental and carer consent form, which are available to download in advance at www.broxtowe.gov.uk/bmxform

There will also be plenty of activities for under fives, as well as a mobile scrap store for families to gather craft materials to be used for creative activities after the event.

The programme is as follows:

Tuesday 2 August (12 noon – 4.00pm)

– The Beeston BID and Broxtowe Borough Council will work in partnership to provide an exciting play day inBeeston Square andBroadgatePark, Beeston, along with a treasure hunt along Wollaton Road

(3.00pm) and a BBQ and family entertainment at the Commercial Inn,Wollaton Road(4.00pm).

Thursday 4 August (12 noon – 4.00pm)

will be the venue for Eastwood Play Day with public parking available next to the school field atHallParkinMansfield Road, Eastwood.

Tuesday 9 August (12 noon – 4.00pm)

Kimberley, Cossall,
Awsworth & Trowell News Update & Information Service – July 2011

1) HGV Weight Restrictions – affecting Kimberley, Watnall & Nuthall

Many people in and around Kimberley have complained for a number of years about the amount of HGV traffic going though certain areas including Maws Lane, and Cliff Boulevard for example. I’ve previously made a
number of representations to the County Council pressing for action to be taken in order to try and get some
sort of weight restriction in place (and crucially some enforcement too).

For the last two months Andy, Mary and me have been chasing the County Council to try and get full information on news were were hearing that new weight restriction measures were indeed going to be implemented.
On 21 June Andy obtained plans from Nottinghamshire County that highlight the following measures that are going to be undertaken in areas such as:

- erect 7.5 signs (except for access) – Trough Road, Watnall

- erect 7.5 signs (except for access) – Stannier Way, Watnall

- erect 7.5 signs (except for access) – Newdigate Road, Watnall

- erect 7.5 signs (except for access) – Corbiere Avenue, Watnall

- erect 7.5 signs (except for access) – Victoria Street & Main Street, Kimberley

- erect 7.5 signs (except for access) – Maws Lane & Eastwood Road Kimberley

- erect 7.5 signs (except for access) – Larkfield Road &Philip Avenue, Nuthall (plus new ‘Give
Way’ sign)

(7.5 = 7.5 tons)

The full details and map of the work that is to be done (there’s other work planned nearby too) can be found by clicking on the document from Nottinghamshire County Council Kimberley
Detail Rev A
An obvious question is then – ‘that’s all well and good
having new signage but who is going to enforce this’
? I checked this out
with the County Council today and they advised that should HGV exceeding 7.5
tons flout the regulations, this can be reported in the first instance to: Paul
Horn, Acting Team Manager – Major Projects and Improvements, Highway Management
Nottinghamshire County Council – paul.horn@nottscc.gov.uk

Overall Andy, Mary and me are pleased that some action at last is being taken. It will be very important, we believe though, to monitor the effect of the new signage. Please do keep us updated with your comments and
feedback.
2) Kimberley Farmers Market – Saturday 2 July

The next Farmers Market is this Saturday between 9am and 1pm – Toll Bar Square,

3) Tram Campaign – Phase III Phoenix Park Extension outto Kimberley & Awsworth

Thanks to everyone who came on the latest walk of the tram route (click on the link to find photos).

We had an excellent turn out and answered lots of questionswith regards to the proposed route.

For more details of future campaigning work we will be doing
please contact Andy – (Cllr Andy Cooper – Chair KENTAG – Kimberley, Eastwood
& Nuthall Tram Action Group).
4) Official Opening of Rumbletums Cafe- Victoria Street, Kimberley

This is taking place on Saturday at 10am. I’ve mentioned
Rumbletums and their vision before - to provide training, life skills and
employment opportunities for young people with a learning disability.
It’s
a really exciting venture and it’s going to be a great local cafe facility.

Do pop into Rumbletums Cafe and more details of their
opening hours etc can be obtained from Shirley Mowbray on s.mowberry@ntlworld.com
telephone 07866 358396, or Jeff Buck – jeff.buck2768@btinternet.com
5) Meet the local police

You have the opportunity to meet and discuss local policing
matters on the following dates during July:

- Wednesday 6 July, Sainsbury’s supermarket, Kimberley between 11 and
12 midday

- Monday 11 July, Broxtowe Avenue, Kimberley
between 7pm and 8pm

- Wednesday 27 July, Cirrus Drive, Watnall, between 7pm and 8pm

more information available from paul.toon@nottinghamshire.pnn.police.uk

6) Aged under 16 or over 60 in Broxtowe? Swim for free during August

There’s a great initiative allow certain groups to be able
to swim for free at either Kimberley or Bramcote Leisure Centres during August.
As long as you fit the above age category and have a Leisure Card – you’ll be
eligible.

If anyone requires more information, please contact Ashley
Marriott, Head of Leisure & Culture, Broxtowe
BC, 0115 9173626 – ashley.marriott@broxtowe.gov.uk

7) Review of Car Parking charges, Kimberley

Andy, Mary and me met with the Chief Execuitve of theBorough Council on Monday 6 June to ascertain the position on how car parkingcharges could be reversed in Kimberley, what the process and timescales are.

A petition was presented to the Borough Council in December,
and we are committed to do whatever we can to help businesses in Kimberley and in
particular those now adversely affected in Newdigagte Street and Victoria Street.

A borough wide review of car parking charges is due to commence during July, and we will be asking hard questions surrounding the continuing justification of charging in Kimberley. We’ll also be asking for precise information on what income has been generated from Victoria Street
car park, taking into account it is largely empty now during the day measured
against the costs of installation of equipment etc.

We are also aware of particular problems regarding ticketingand the “free first hour”.

We’ll get in touch again just when we know more about what
form the review will take.

8)    New play equipment planned for Knowle Park, Kimberley

On 21 June I met with the Head Teacher at Kimberley Primary School,
a representative from FundSport UK and Groundwork in order to work through the successful bid that has been made that will help to transform the park.

There’s a signficant sum of money been awarded, so we should see some real improvements and benefits here.

The background work is now being done Groundwork and Fundsport UK
in order to work up the final designs and approve contracts etc.

This work is being done in conjunction with Kimberley Town
Council, who own the park, and thanks goes to Cllr Steve Brunt who I am aware
has been very supportive towards Fundsport.

I know the youngsters at the school are excited and they
were an integral part of getting the designs in place!

We hope that the new equipment to be in place by February
next year.

More information available from Jennifer Porter (Head
Teacher at Kimberley Primary School) head@kimberley-pri.notts.sch.uk
or myself.

9)   3 mountains – 3 countries – 1 day

Kimberley resident Steve Johnson who is embarking on a major challenge in July!

Steve & 3 friends will be doing the 3 peaks challenge on
16 July. This is in aid of Notts Hospice. Starting at Ben Nevis (1344 metre)
they will climb as fast as possible then drive the 414 km to Lake District to
climb Scafell Pike (978 metre). Then drive 356 km to Wales to climb Snowdon (1085 metre).

The challenge is to climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland
and Wales all within 24 hours including drive time.

You may see Steve & friends running, walking or cycling
around Kimberley. They are in training 5 nights a week. To sponsor them visit http://www.justgiving.com/stevejohnson3peaks

Why is this 3peaks challenge so different? Steve et al
have seen the good work that Notts Hospice are doing (yet they have never been
treated by them) – they just want to help the hospice.

Steve lives at 81 Babbington Lane, Kimberley,
Nottingham. His e mail is shown below, and
mobile is 07866 744181 stevejohnson.7522@yahoo.com

10) What’s happening with Kimberley Brewery site?

Mary, Andy and me had a further meeting with the Brewery Owner on Tuesday 7 June to learn about the latest position about the site as a whole. The owner Mr Rafiq Vindhani is putting together a work group that will
be looking at all of the bids that have come in for the site at the end of this month.

11) The Hope Project (next door to the Post Office in Kimberley

This charity is in need of quality furniture. They cancollect within a 15 mile radius. In addition good second hand quality goods – clothes, shoes, bags, bric a brac are always useful. For more information
please contact Denise McPherson – 0115 9243078 – denise@outreachchurch.co.uk

12 ) Interested in playing rugby?

A colleague of mine living in Nottingham is interested in setting up a local rugby team/academy in the Eastwood & Kimberley area. He’s originally from South Africa, and has good contacts
with the national side there. We’ve got a meeting with some possible interested
parties this week, and if you would like more information please contact
Jacques Niemand, swiftactive@gmail.com

13) Noel Street anti social behaviour problems

There’s been an increasing number of incidents been reported
again with regards to instances of anti social behaviour – smashed car windows
etc on Noel Street. Cllr Andy Cooper has been in touch with the police to find
out what the latest trends are in this area.

Andy, Mary & me are happy to hold a session with local
residents in July (to be held at the Leisure Centre) if you would like to
discuss matters further and work up a strategy to try and combat the current
problems.

Please contact andy.cooper@broxtowe.gov.uk
if you think this would be useful and would like to attend.

14) East Midlands Airport

We’ve been made aware that East Midlands Airport are putting
in place a series of summer activities for parents and children that might make
a good day out! Fore more information contact www.eastmidlandsairport.com/community

15) Changes.to Education Maintenance Allowance (EMA)

The Coalition Government announced in October 2010 the decision to close the Education
Maintenance Allowance (EMA) scheme at the end of this current Academic Year.

Subsequently a new Bursary Fund to help the most vulnerable 16-19 year-olds continue in full-time education,
together with transitional arrangements to help some of those who are currently
in receipt of EMA is being launched. I’ve been given some information on this,
and if anyone would like more information, please get in touch.

16) Rubbish on precinct Kimberley

There’s been a number of complaints received about the
amount of rubbish been accumulated in the Precinct in Kimberley. Mary is keeping a close eye on
this, and has made some enquiries as to who is responsible for clearing the
rubbish.

Please contact mary.mcguckin@broxtowe.gov.uk
for more information, and to report any particular problems.

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update & Information Serivce – mid June 2011 update

1)   Wind Turbine application in Broxtowe (Newthorpe)

The full details of the application to be decided next Wednesday can  be bound by clicking on: Development Control Agenda – 22 June 2011

Members of the public are allowed to attend in the public gallery, but are not allowed to speak.  However if you have particular points that you want raising, and whether you are for or against the application, you can contact Cllr Andy Cooper – address given above – who can represent your views at the meeting and he is a voting member of the Development Control committee.

The councillors who will be making the decision on the wind turbine application are visiting a site in Peterborough on Monday to get an idea of a working operation.

From a personal perspective I have previously made my support known for the turbine

http://richardsrobinson.org.uk/2011/02/official-response-of-cllr-richard-robinson-for-planning-application-1000717ful-erection-of-wind-turbine-and-ancillary-development-severn-trent-sewage-treatment-works-halls-lane-giltbrook/

I am not a voting member of the committee, but will attend and make a brief statement.  I am more than happy to receive comments and questions beforehand whether you are for or against the application.  I will do my best to present a balanced case, based on the feedback I receive.

2)   Tram Phase III to Kimberley – walk the proposed route!

The local action group Kimberley, Eastwood, & Nuthall Tram Action Group (KENTAG) are organising a further walk for all interested members of the public on Saturday 25 June, meeting at 11am at Phoenix Park.  We will walk along the path from Phoenix Park through to Kimberley & finish up at the Nelson & Railway for sustenance.

More information available from Chair of KENTAG Cllr Andy Cooper – details as above.

3)   Arts & Leisure events

Broxtowe Super Sprint Triathlon

Sunday 19 June

Kimberley Leisure Centre

8am Start

Broxtowe’s Super Sprint Triathlon is a fun introduction to Triathlon for people aged 15 years plus. The event is a new event aimed at beginners that can be enjoyed by friends, families, and work colleagues.  Triathlon involves three short events linked together to make one
exciting challenge. The event involves a 200 metre swim in the pool at Kimberley Leisure Centre followed by a 7K bike ride around Watnall, finishing with a 2K run on the playing field at the Leisure Centre.

The deadline for the event has now passed and 78 people will be competing in the event this Sunday. Further details and course maps and future events are all available on the website. www.broxtowe.gov.uk/sportsevents

After the event participants will be encouraged to compete in the Erewash Triathlon in August and Broxtowe’s longer distance Triathlon in September. These additional opportunities provide the pathway for local people to continue with Triathlon and improve their health
and fitness over a longer period of time.

4)   Kimberley Pram Race 2011

This is taking place on Sunday 10 July, organised by Kimberley Town Council.  Closing date for entrants is 1 July.  If you want to enter a pram – contact the Clerk – Amy Frost – 0115 9382733 e mail: amy.frost@kimberleytowncouncil.org.uk

Kimberley, Awsworth, Cossall & Trowell News Update & Information Service – June 2011

14

Hi all

A warm welcome to June’s newsletter.

It seems nigh on impossible that it is 4 weeks since the elections and there’s a huge programme of work ahead!  As you will see from the update below life is not going to be dull around Kimberley, Awsworth and the surrounding areas for some time to come.

As this is the first newsletter since the elections – with a new council at Broxtowe I’ve included at item 15 some specific ward information which you may find interesting.

I’ve also included the contact details for Cllr Mary McGuckin, and Cllr Andy Cooper – there are 3 Labour Borough Cllrs now for Kimberley and Cossall – we are a strong team, working together on a wide range of issues.  If you do need help or assistance on anything do get in touch, and as ever feedback to me on this newsletter is always welcome.

best regards

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update & Information Service – June 2011

1)   Waste & Recycling Plant – affecting Babbington, Awsworth, & Cossall
I was alerted last week to a proposal to site awaste & recycling plant off Westby Lane (which is by the side of the Gardeners Inn (Awsworth Lane Cossall).

a) I have been in touch with the County Council ascertained the following information:

The background to the application can be found at the upporting statement for the application which can be found on Nottinghamshire County Council’s website at:

http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/home/environment/planningmatters/developmentcontrol/planning-applications/all-applications.htm?search=yes&appno=F%2F2180&siteref=&loc=&prop=
also
http://www.nottinghamshire.gov.uk/large-static/eplanning/docs/F2180statement.pdf

It is proposed to compost green waste (plant matter/grass clippings etc, but not food waste) in order to create compost which would then be spread on the applicant’s adjacent farmland to improve soil quality.  The application states that the total annual throughput of material would be 3250 tonnes per annum with no more than 500 tonnes of material on site at any one time.  The application states that approximately 300 vehicles a year would visit the site to deliver the green waste which equates to approximately one vehicle per day.  The application states that the composting process takes approximately ten weeks from receipt of green waste to spreading onto land.

Regarding the application process, the statutory timeframe for dealing with this type of application is 13 weeks.  Due to the number of objections received on the application, any decision is to be made by councillors at the County Council Planning and Licensing Committee, likely to be September this year at the earliest.
More specific information is available from:
Jonathan Smith, Policy, Planning and Corporate Services
Nottinghamshire County Council
0115 977 2104 jonathan.smith@nottscc.gov.uk

b) A group opposing the development for a whole whost of reasons is active in the area.
If you would like more information from them and get involved please contact Emma Torrance: babbingtonresidentsassociation@googlemail.com or Jeremy Shaw

jeremyshaw@btconnect.com

I’ll update you with further news just as soon as I am made aware.

2) Kimberley Farmers Market – Saturday 4 June

The next Farmers Market is this Saturday  between 9am and 1pm – Toll Bar Square, Kimberley.

We’ve got new stallholders – including chocolate and fudge, and welcome back Trinity Farm Cosall Fruit & Veg.

Do come and support your local market!

We have a committee of a few dedicated volunteers who put a great deal of time into making Kimberley Farmers Market happen.  We hugely enjoy our work, and we are always pleased to receive feedback and suggestions for further improvements to the market.

Do let me know if you have any comments or would like to join the Farmers Market committee – we are a small, but very friendly team!

If you haven’t been down to the market before, give us a try this Saturday!  You are bound to come across someone you know, and it’s a great chance to have a natter.  Kimberley Farmers Markets are on the first Saturday of the month, and are booked up to and including December this year.

Andy, Mary and me have decided that we will hold our surgeries at the market – so if any of you have got a gripe about anything, do come and have a chat with us.

3)   Tram Campaign – Phase III Phoenix Park Extension out to Kimberley & Awsworth

Thanks to everyone who has responded to the March newsletter.  There was a huge response with 98% people in favour of the tram extension.

Cllr Andy Cooper is leading the campaign to extend the tram to Kimberley, with Mary and me offering our full backing.

Andy, through KENTAG (Kimberley, Eastwood & Nuthall Tram Action Group) is organising a further walk of the route, which all members of the public are invited to attend (whether pro or anti tram).   This is to take place at 11am on Saturday 25 June, commencing at Phoenix Park.  We will walk the route through to Kimberley, and then end up in the Nelson & Railway.

If you are intending to come, please contact Cllr Andy Cooper – andy.cooper@broxtowe.gov.uk  Tel: 0788 440 3860

4)  Campaigns for Pedestrian Crossings – Noel Street/Nottingham Road/Broomhill Road, Digby Street and bottom of Gilt Hill

On Tuesday 24 May I met with the Regional Manager of Giltbrook Retail Park to discus a number of key issues affecting the local area.  One of the topics we discussed was funding for community initiatives.  For example there is scope for us to bid locally for financial contributions towards zebra crossings.  There are 3 that I have in mind following feedback from local residents – as highlighted above.   I’m now working with the County Council and Giltbrook Retail Park to draw up more specific plans, costings and timescales to see what is possible to implement.  There’s a lot of work to do in terms of preparing documents, submissions and presentations, but I am hoping we can get some agreements in place during the current financial year 2001/12, working in conjunction with local schools.

I’ll feedback more when there is more definite information, but if anyone wants any more information in the meantime, please get in touch.

5)   Wind Turbine Application – Newthorpe

The Development Control Committee at Broxtowe Borough Council will make its decision on whether to grant approval for the turbine at Newthorpe on Wednesday 22 June.

The committee meets in the evening at Broxtowe Borough Council Town Hall in Beeston and members of the public are permitted to attend.  If you want more specific information about speaking rights, or are intending to come along please contact Steve Dance, Head of Planning & Building Control – steve.dance@broxtowe.gov.uk

Councillors who sit on the Development Control committee are visiting a site with a wind turbine on Monday 20 June to gain a clearer understanding of a working operation.

6)    Power cuts in Kimberley

Some of you will recall the problems with regular power cuts in certain parts of Kimberley.  For well over a year now I’ve been working alongside Central Networks and some helpful residents in the High Street area, in order to try and establish some long term improvements.

I’ve been informed that the work to reinforce the low voltage network in Kimberley was due begin on the 16 May 2011 and was originally expected to be completed around 25 May 2011.  The work to renew the substation on St James’ Street in Kimberley is due to start on 29 August 2011 and should be completed on 13 September 2011.  Some customer supplies will be interrupted while they are being transferred over to the new substation and low voltage network however, those customers will be notified in advance.

I’ve now been advised by Central Networks that the work was not able to commence on 16 May 2011.  I understand that when the engineers arrived on site they were unable to put the new electricity cable in the pavement.  This was an unexpected delay and the only other solution was to install the cables in the road.  To do this they need to obtain a Road Closure Notice from the local Council and the earliest date they could obtain is 20 June 2011.  If the planned work runs to schedule, the road will be closed for two weeks to enable the work to be carried out and then it will take approximately one week for the reinstatement to be completed.  During the reinstatement there will be barriers erected so the road can be re-opened.

Central Networks have offered apologies for the inconvenience this work may cause to residents in the area and would like to assure you that disruption will be kept to a minimal.
If anyone has any questions or comments you can contact directly:

Customer Liaison Co-ordinator
Operations & Asset Management

7)  Review of Car Parking charges, Kimberley

Many of you will be aware that Mary, Andy and me have all committed to do whatever we can to try and get the car parking charges reversed for Kimberley.

A petition was presented to the Borough Council in December, and following the elections this month we have acted swiftly with a new council now in place in and to also capitalise on the growing discontent of local residents especially on Newdigate Street and Victoria Street who have been plauged with problems since the onset of the charges.

We are meeting with the Chief Executive of Broxtowe BC next Monday 6 June to discuss how legally we can get the charges reversed, and what the timescales for this would be.

We’ll let you know just soon as there is more information.

8)   Regeneration of Kimberley – a vision for 10 years’ time

Last Wednesday Andy, Mary and me met with youngters from The Kimberley School looking at an exciting project looking at how we could regenerate Kimberley and the surrounding areas.  The youngsters have got some fantastic skills and ideas, and it’s a really exciting venture, that in the long term should prove to be a major boost for our area.

We’ve now got further meetings plannned where we are going to start mapping out ideas and getting feedback from local residents.  There will be ample opportunities for local businesses etc to contribute also.

More information available from Student Voice Co-ordinator David Sells: d.sells@kimberleyschool.co.uk or from Andy, Mary and me.

9)   Christmas Down Under Party

Yes you read in right, and it’s only May.  I’ve been asked to adverise

the following event taking place on Saturday 25 June 2011 starting 7pm, Kettlebrook Lodge, Kimberley.

It’s a fundraising event for the local Scouts, £2.50 admission.  There will be a licenced bar -for the adults  :)  -  bouncy castle, visit from Santa, bbq and disco.

Tickets available by telephoning: 0115 9459631 or 0115 9458435

10)   Knowle Park – new play equipment

Some of you will remember a good deal of work that was undertaken together with Kimberley Primary School last year in order to bid for funds for new play equipment on Knowle Park.  The children there did a fantastic job helping to give their ideas on how the park could be improved.

I’m a governor at the school and we put a bid in for a significant sum of money in order to purchase new equipment.

Although it has been a very long wait, we received confirmation just two weeks ago that our bid has been successful.

We’ve now got a meeting with the Head Teacher at Kimberley Primary School Jennifer Porter together with funders in order to work out the specific new equipment that would be most suitable.  As the park is owned by Kimberley Town Council, we will be working closely with them in order take on board their wishes and reach agreement on the final new scheme.

With regards to timescales, it’s not possible yet to definitely say when the new equipment will be installed.  It’s my hope that we can achieve this by the end of the current financial year – 31 March 2012.

More information available from Jennifer Porter (Head Teacher at Kimberley Primary School) head@kimberley-pri.notts.sch.uk or myself.

11)   3 mountains – 3 countries – 1 day

Three weeks ago I met up with Kimberley resident Steve Johnson who is embarking on a major challenge in July!

Steve & 3 friends will be doing the 3 peaks challenge on 16 July.  This is in aid of Notts Hospice.  Starting at Ben Nevis (1344 metre) they will climb as fast as possible then drive the 414 km to Lake District to climb Scafell Pike (978 metre).  Then drive 356 km to Wales to climb Snowdon (1085 metre).

The challenge is to climb the highest mountains in England, Scotland and Wales all within 24 hours including drive time.

You may see Steve & friends running, walking or cycling around Kimberley.  They are in training 5 nights a week.  To sponsor them visit http://www.justgiving.com/stevejohnson3peaks

Why is this 3peaks challenge so different?  Steve et al have seen the good work that Notts Hospice are doing (yet they have never been treated by them) – they just want to help the hospice.

Steve lives at 81 Babbington Lane, Kimberley, Nottingham.  His e mail is shown below, and mobile is 07866 744181 stevejohnson.7522@yahoo.com

12)   What’s happening with Kimberley Brewery site?

Mary, Andy and me have got a further meeting with the Brewery Owner on Tuesday 7 June to learn about the latest position.

13)     Rumbletums Community Café

I’ve been asked by a friend in Nuthall Shirley Mowbray to update you on this new project.  It seems exciting and really worthwhile.

Rumbletums Update

The Rumbletums Community Café project is making good progress and is now looking to open on or around 1st July this year.

Rumbletums is being set up to offer training and employment opportunities to young adults with learning disabilities, and to offer a new café venue to the people of Kimberley and the surrounding area.  It will be based on the former Hub premises on the corner of Newdigate Street and Victoria Street.

They have now been successfully registered as a charity and have recently received funding from Nottinghamshire County Council and Broxtowe Borough Council.  This funding will allow Rumbletums to do essential building work to their premises in Newdigate Street and to purchase all the equipment that they need to get going.

A new logo for the project has been designed at no cost by Nuthall-based Creative Solutions Unlimited and Kimberley School business studies students will be helping with some of the café’s publicity and marketing.

If anyone would like more information about the project or would like to get involved, please contact Dawn Pillar dawn.pillar@ntlworld.com  Shirley Mowberry s.mowberry@ntlworld.com or Jeff Buck jeff.buck2768@btinternet.com

Alternatively telephone 07866 358396

Projects throughout the UK have included energy monitoring and data/billing analysis to assist companies to improve efficient use of energy. This has included disputes with electricity suppliers and distributors and site surveys, installation of temporary monitoring equipment and recommendations to install suitable power factor correction equipment.

Site surveys for the installation of a M&T at major sites, have been undertaken and with the recent advances in remote monitoring technologies surveys and installation of GSM smart meters have been undertaken at distribution centres of a leading logistics company.

A request by a leading UK energy supplier has resulted in the installation of remote data collection technology, including planning and installation of remote data logging equipment to monitor and analyse usage data from geothermal sites within the UK. This work is ongoing in the development of renewable energy and low carbon technology. Site visits and travel are significant reduced with the application of t-mac technology.

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell – News Update & Information Service – May 2011

2

Hi all

A brief update for you this month, there’s a couple of items to draw your attention including the latest position on power cuts in Kimberley.

I’m not going to dwell at great length on Thursday and the elections as I’ve written extensively about the significance of the elections locally and the national referendum already.

I’ll be back with a full update for May after Thursday – providing of course I am re-elected that is :)

Best regards

Richard

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell – News Update & Information Service – May 2011

1)  Power Cuts in Kimberley & steps to make improvements

Some of you will recall the problems with regular power cuts in certain parts of Kimberley.  For well over a year now I’ve been working alongside Central Networks and some helpful residents in the High Street area, in order to try and establish some long term improvements.

I’ve been informed that tthe work to reinforce the low voltage network in Kimberley will begin on the 16 May 2011 and is expected to be completed around 25 May 2011.  The work to renew the substation on St James’ Street in Kimberley will start on 29 August 2011 and should be completed on 13 September 2011.  Some customer supplies will be interrupted while they are being transferred over to the new substation and low voltage network however, those customers will be notified in advance.

Anyone wanting further information can contact:

Helen Holbrook, Customer Liaison Co-ordinator, Operations & Asset Management Helen.Holbrook@central-networks.co.uk     Tel: 02476 194100

2)    Farmers Market – Saturday 7 May – 9am until 1pm

The next Farmers Market in Kimberley is this coming Saturday, Toll Bar Square.

We’ve got a great variety of stalls including ostrich burgers, fruit and veg, bread, cakes, cheeses, meats, curries, free range eggs and hand made cards.

Do come and support your local market, there’s always a great community atmosphere and it’s a good way to catch up with neighbours!

3)   Zebra crossings in Kimberley

Many of you will be aware of the current campaign that Andy Cooper, Mary McGuckin and myself are running in order to try and get a crossing near the junction with Noel Street & Nottingham Road.  We’ve now collated a lot of evidence & will be putting this to the Council Council shortly.

I know as well from canvassing that there’s continuing pressure for a zebra to be installed in the vicinity of Digby Street and Eastwood Road.  Also the question has again been raised about the possibility of a pedestrian crossing at the bottom of Gilt Hill to assist those walking over to Ikea.

I’ve been in touch with the Managing Director of the Retail Park site, and there is the possibility of some monetary contribution coming forward over the next few months.

I’ll be following this up after Thursday.  If anyone wants more information please get in touch.

4)   Voting Day – Thursday 5 May 2011

I’m sure you don’t need reminding about Thursday.

In Kimberley & Cossall when out canvassing together with Andy Cooper & Mary McGuckin we’ve picked up lots of issues that are still important to people  – like the atrocious state of some of the pavements and roads, the need to continue to press the County Council to stop ignoring people in the Swingate/High Street area who want something doing to help improve traffic flow and improve safety for pedestrians, the absolute need to campaign vigorously against open casting in Cossall, regeneration for Kimberley, an enforcement of the weight restriction in the Cliff Boulevard area and so on.

Just a few pointers that might be of help with regards to voting on Thursday:

-          You will all have a vote on Referendum on changing the voting system.  You vote either Yes or No change to the Alternative Vote.  Additionally …………..

-          If you live in Kimberley you also have two additional elections to vote in a) for the borough council – here you are allowed to select any THREE candidates from the 9 shown on the ballot paper.  b) you then vote for Kimberley town council (pick up to 15 candidates – there are 17 listed).

-          In Awsworth – for the borough elections you pick ONE candidate (just two candidates standing).  You then have a separate vote for Awsworth Parish Council.

-          In Cossall – there’s no election for the parish council.  You just vote here for the THREE borough council candidates (nine standing).

-          In Trowell – again no election for the parish.  You vote for one candidate for the borough council elections.

-          If anyone wants information on candidates in Greasley or Nuthall, or any clarification about what’s been written above, please let me know.  Alternatively see: http://www.broxtowe.gov.uk/index.aspx?articleid=1
