Broxtowe News Update & Information Service – August 2016
A warm welcome to my August newsletter and a special welcome to all those who have joined during the past month.
Council work continues to be extremely busy for me. In particular I have been beavering away producing the submission to Nottinghamshire County Council on suggested traffic improvements in Kimberley, working on the tram extension to Kimberley, Cinema proposals and so on – (all of which are featured below).
Always happy to receive feedback, and if you need help or assistance with any personal case work – do get in touch.
I trust the information below is useful for you.

Broxtowe News Update & Information Service – August 2016
1) Broxtowe Borough Council – Local Plan Update – potential additional sites consultation
The Council is consulting upon potential additional sites which could be the subject of future development to meet the needs arising from the Core Strategy. These are sites which were not included in the Site Allocations Issues and Options consultation in 2013. There are three sites that form the subject of this consultation: Nuthall, Chetwynd Barracks and Bramcote.
Your views are invited on sites identified in the consultation; this is your opportunity to guide future development in your area. The responses from this consultation will help us to select sites to allocate for development and will help to identify and address issues that need to be considered at a local level.
The consultation details and response forms can be found online via the following link: http://www.broxtowe.gov.uk/part2localplan
or paper copies can be viewed at the Council Offices on Foster Avenue, Beeston, NG9 1AB or in libraries across the borough.
Responses should be made online or on the appropriate forms. The consultation period will run from Monday 22 August to 5pm Monday 3 October 2016. Please note that all representations must be received within this time.
2) Maws Lane Junction, consultation on One Way System, and Swingate traffic flow
Finally after many months work the final report is now available and can be found in full at the following link:
There is also a separate page on my website dedicated to this subject
Today – Thursday 25 August I have a site meeting with County Council officials to go through the provisional plans to alter the Maws Lane junction which I covered in my last newsletter:
(item 10 where I expressed major reservations).
Many thanks to all of you who have offered comments already. Thanks too to Kimberley residents Nina Douglas and Susan Page for their help in compiling all of the information.
I would be pleased to receive further feedback and answer any questions. When I get an official response I will let you know.
3) 532 Bus – Selston – Eastwood via Kimberley
I reported in July that I had been contacted by a number of residents – very unhappy with the reduction in services that were then imminent, and have since been implemented. This particularly affects people in the Hardy Street, Cliff Boulevard, Alma Hill and Maws Lane vicinity of Kimberley. There are a good number of people who are elderly, who do not drive and therefore have no other means of getting into Kimberley for shopping.
Two years ago a lot of people got in touch about this service and I spent a fair amount of time pressing the County Council to take some action. They did respond positively then, however the current position worries me a lot.
I have made urgent representations to Nottinghamshire County Council about this matter and I have asked several weeks ago to meet up with Chris Ward the Manager for Transport & Travel Services.
I am still awaiting to hear back from the County Council. When there is more information I will let you know.
4) Overgrown hedges Eastwood Road towards the brewery and next to the steps by the bus stop where the derelict building is – Kimberley
I have received a number of complaints about overgrown hedges in the above vicinity and have reported this (hopefully for some action to be taken).
5) Tram Extension Line 4 phase III to Kimberley, Eastwood & into Amber Valley
Much campaigning work will be undertaken over the next few months in order to make further progress with the proposed Tram extension to Kimberley & on into Eastwood.
I am extremely grateful to my Member of Parliament Gloria De Piero for her full commitment to the proposals. She stated “I am delighted to be working alongside Richard to secure popular support for the tram to be extended to Kimberley & Eastwood”. She added “it’s a fantastic way to travel and I will be campaigning hard in Eastwood to bring jobs, investment, growth and to reduce traffic congestion as a result of us getting the tram network extended”.
We will be doing a lot of work in and around Eastwood and if you would like to get involved please do let Gloria or me know.
To contact Gloria: 01623 720399 – email@example.com
6) Giltbrook Retail Park (GRP) Cinema Proposals
I reported in July that I had met with some of the Senior Manager at GRP to discuss a number of matters.
We’ve had a number of discussions since then and I am going to look around another retail park in the Midlands during the next month to look at an idea of possible different options regarding the cinema proposals that could be implemented at GRP.
Do get in touch if you would like to help with the cinema campaign – I’d be very pleased to hear from you. Background information available at:

8) Nottingham University Hospital Cancer Trials
Friday 30 September 230pm – 430pm Nottingham City Hospital
The Nottingham Cancer Clinical Trials Team (NCCTT), formed in 2008, helps patients take part in cancer clinical trials within Nottinghamshire. It is part of a larger network which has five groups specialising in different types of cancer including breast, gynaecological, head and neck cancer and haematological (blood) cancer. It has its own research treatment area where a highly skilled team administers new and established chemotherapy regimes, novel therapies (which target only the cancer cells), monoclonal antibodies (a type of biological therapy) and small molecule therapies (targeted therapies) along with different classes of genetically modified organisms and vaccines for many trial patients.
Come along to meet the team, have a tour of the facilities and learn about other types of cancer treatments and investigations the NCCTT participate in.
Places are limited at events and it is vital that you book your place. Please register by either emailing email@example.com or calling 0115 9249924 x76242.
9) Suggested recommended reading (current national issues)
This is a new item I introduced where I’ll post links to some of the best reads I’ve come across on a range issues recently. Hope you find them stimulating. Does not mean to say I endorse them, but they are interesting.
A number of you commented how much they liked this new feature. Just a couple this month:
a) Do we have to rubber stamp the Referendum decision?
b) Once voting Labour was a statement of identity – with an English Labour movement it can be again

Gerry Hargreaves has a background of electrical installation and maintenance followed by considerable experience of energy monitoring providing technical support to the marketing division of East Midlands Electricity.
Projects throughout the UKhave included energy monitoring and data/billing analysis to assist companies to improve efficient use of energy. This has included disputes with electricity suppliers and distributors and site surveys, installation of temporary monitoring equipment and recommendations to install suitable power factor correction equipment. Site surveys for the installation of a M&T at major sites, have been undertaken and with the recent advances in remote monitoring technologies surveys and installation of GSM smart meters have been undertaken at distribution centres of a leading logistics company. A request by a leading UKenergy supplier has resulted in the installation of remote data collection technology, including planning and installation of remote data logging equipment to monitor and analyse usage data from geothermal sites within theUK. This work is ongoing in the development of renewable energy and low carbon technology.
Site visits and travel are significant reduced with the application of t-mac technology.
