Broxtowe News Update & Information Service – (main edition) January 2016
Hi all, and a warm welcome to the second (and main) edition of my newsletter for January.
A special greetings to all those who have joined recently. I hope that you find the newsletter both useful and stimulating.
I’ve changed the title of the newsletter to reflect the fact that residents spread throughout Broxtowe now receive the information. Whilst the main focus will remain on the northern areas (ie Kimberley, Awsworth, Nuthall, Eastwood, Greasley, Cossall) etc – I’ll try and include information that relates to the whole of the borough wherever possible.
If you have any items you want including, please do let me know.
As ever there’s plenty to update you about and discuss, so straight down to business.
If you need help with personal casework do let me know, and please free to send feedback and comments.
Labour Borough Cllr for Kimberley

Broxtowe News Update & Information Service – main edition January 2016
1) Tram Extension Line 4 phase iii – Phoenix Park, Kimberley, Eastwood & into Amber Valley
Discussions continue with various parties behind the scenes on the possible tram extension out to Kimberley. During the past few weeks, under the Chairmanship of Cllr John Handley (Broxtowe Borough & County Councillor) – the borough council have considered the findings of the Mott MacDonald feasibility study out to Kimberley. Click on link below for more information on the Kimberley campaign.
Gedling Borough Council have this week announced that they are now interested in tram extension along the east side of Nottingham: http://www.nottinghampost.com/stop-Gedling/story-28556070-detail/story.html
Work will continue over the coming months to raise the profile of the Kimberley/Eastwood route, in conjunction and in collaboration with other areas in Nottingham such as Gedling, that have also expressed an interest in tram extensions, and widening the tram network in Nottingham. When more specific detail is available I will let you know.
For more information contact: Steve Barber – (Vice President elect of the Light Rail Transit Association) – firstname.lastname@example.org or Cllr Andy Cooper (Kimberley Town Council & Chair of Kimberley, Eastwood & Nuthall Tram Action Group) – email@example.com – or myself.
2) Stapleford Community Action Team
The venue for this is as follows: The Meeting Place, Stapleford, Thursday 21 January at 7pm.
I have organised some neighbourhood community sessions where can meet informally over tea and coffee to chat and discuss the issues. These are to take place as follows:
– Wednesday 27 January 2016 – between 3pm and 7pm
– Saturday 30 January 2016 – between 10am and 12 noon.
Both sessions will take place at Rumbletums, Victoria Street, Kimberley.
Copies of the report can be found by clicking on the link below, and there’ll be some hard copies at the sessions above too.
Thanks in particular to Kimberley residents Sue Page and John Sykes for their help, hard work and suggestions in compiling the reports.
I’ve made Kimberley Town Council aware of the sessions in January and will value their constructive input and suggestions, as the weeks and months progress.
I look forward to receiving your comments – and please do feel free to come along next Wednesday or Saturday.
4) Road markings Awsworth island under A610 bridge approaching Ikea Kimberley/Giltbrook
I have been approached about concerns with the poor road markings in the above location. I have made contact with Nottinghamshire County Council and will relay to you any responses that I receive.
If any of you have concerns on this matter please let me know.
5) Kimberley Swimming Club (KSC)
I met with representatives of KSC on Thursday 4 December 2015 and again on 5 January 2016 to learn more about their work and understand some of the frustrations they have in planning ahead with their programme of activities. In particular there are concerns for example about their ability to be able to keep providing swimming lessons in the teaching pool at Kimberley Leisure Centre.
They also want to be able to maintain main pool swimming availability to a specified level.
KSC are a well established voluntary organisation that enjoy a large amount of public support locally, have a very good track record in supporting our youngsters and in achieving awards, and are a well run club.
KSC have more than 400 registered members from across the local community and provide swimming lessons, improvement sessions and competitive swimming for members of all ages regardless of race, sex or ability. In particular they encourage mass participation in a fun sport and provide life skills which keep young people safe in water.
If you would like to learn more about Kimberley Swimming Club contact either Jean Granger: Hon Secretary – firstname.lastname@example.org – website: www.kimberleyswimmingclub.com or Alan Pink: email@example.com
6) Kimberley Regeneration Group
Local businesses are invited to the next Kimberley Regeneration Group meeting on Friday 4 March 2016 – 8am – 9am
Venue: Kimberley Town Council – Kimberley Parish Hall.

7) Broxtowe Women’s Project (BWP)
BWP have a further Freedom programme starting in April 2016 and this will be in the Eastwood area. This programme is an awareness group for survivors of domestic abuse and any women who want to generally improve their awareness of domestic abuse and how perpetrators of domestic abuse can control and manipulate.
The Programme is open to any woman from any area that is over 16, there is just a short risk assessment before they can give the exact location.
More information on BWP can be found at:

8) Excess litter – The Precinct, Kimberley
I have been contacted over the past few weeks who are concerned about increasing amount of increased litter in and around The Precinct in Kimberley.
I have highlighted the concerns and the current letting agents (The Precinct is privately owned) are now aware of the issues.
I have been advised that steps should be taken now to improve matters. If anyone notices continued problems however I would be pleased to be kept informed.
9) Littering on Awsworth Lane
I was approached by the owners of The Gate Inn at Awsworth, recently who were increasingly concerned about the rubbish in the hedges all the way from their pub to the lay by just before the big White House near the Hoggs Head. There have been fly tipping issues there as well for some time.
I understand that Broxtowe Borough Council have responded promptly to the concerns.
If anyone notices any further dumping please contact Paul Syson Operations Manager at Kimberley Depot: firstname.lastname@example.org
10) Waste & Recycling Awareness
The Recycling & Environment Advisor at Broxtowe Borough Council Mrs Jane Hutchinson is available to talk to schools, uniformed groups and community/national organisations on issues relating to waste and recycling.
Working with school groups is rewarding and Jane is now able to take groups of children aged 7 plus to Veolia’s Materials Recovery facility. It involves an informative assembly and then inviting the children to enter a competition. This then enables an award to 30 children with a visit. Younger children can participate and will be presented with recycled pens and pencils.
All this is free for the school as Veolia pay for the bus hire.

11) Nottinghamshire County Council 2016/17 Budget Proposals
Have your input and say involving some very difficult decisions facing the County Council:
12) North Midlands Devolution
I accept that if I mention the subject of reorganisation of local government – well it’s probably not the sexiest of subjects. Not one also that comes up much on the doorstep. Nonetheless this is a hugely important topic with significant implications for how councils especially in Derbyshire & Nottinghamshire deliver improved services in the future. It affects us all therefore.
Next Wednesday at 7pm Wednesday 27 January – Broxtowe Borough Council will debate its response to a devolution deal for Derbyshire and Nottinghamshire. Like with all Full meetings of the council, members of the public are invited to attend.

Gerry Hargreaves has a background of electrical installation and maintenance followed by considerable experience of energy monitoring providing technical support to the marketing division of East Midlands Electricity.
Projects throughout the UKhave included energy monitoring and data/billing analysis to assist companies to improve efficient use of energy. This has included disputes with electricity suppliers and distributors and site surveys, installation of temporary monitoring equipment and recommendations to install suitable power factor correction equipment. Site surveys for the installation of a M&T at major sites, have been undertaken and with the recent advances in remote monitoring technologies surveys and installation of GSM smart meters have been undertaken at distribution centres of a leading logistics company. A request by a leading UKenergy supplier has resulted in the installation of remote data collection technology, including planning and installation of remote data logging equipment to monitor and analyse usage data from geothermal sites within theUK. This work is ongoing in the development of renewable energy and low carbon technology.
Site visits and travel are significant reduced with the application of t-mac technology.
