Hi all

A warm welcome to the September update and especially those who have joined the e-mail list during August.

Thanks to all of you who have been in touch during the past few weeks.  Even though I’ve been away on holiday for 2 weeks I think I’ve just about caught up with everything.  For all those who have sent in comments on the Kimberley Brewery site proposals, I have passed this onto the owners.

Do contact Andy, Mary or myself for help with personal casework.  We are only too happy to try and be of assistance.

Do send in your feedback on this newsletter too.

Also  I do get lots of requests for advertising for local businesses – do send in your details if you want anything adding (please see Local Community Business section) at the foot of this newsletter.

best regards

Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update

& Information Service – September edition 2012

1)  Jubilee Street, Kimberley

The state of the road here is quite appalling.   We are going to do some detailed work with residents to try and persuade the County Council to undertake some proper improvements here.

Contact Helena Lings (County Council candidate) helenal007@hotmail.com – or myself for further information.

Additionally if there are other roads nearby you – that need attention do let us know.  We have made detailed requests to the highways authorities previously for improvements in road and pavement surfaces, however we need to keep up the momentum.  The more details you can give us – we can keep up the pressure on the County Council to act.

2) Footpath areas on Greens Lane Kimberley

Whilst on the subject of highways the County Council have informed me that they have repaired the footpath areas on Greens Lane.  Also the “Keep Clear” has been added to the junction recently and the lines re-freshed.  Additionally the pedestrian dropped crossing point on the corner was due to receive attention during August.

For more details contact:

Dave Walker
District Manager Broxtowe
Highways South
Environment and Resources Department

3)    Nottingham University Hospitals NHS Trust (NUH) Annual Public meeting

For those of you interested in NHS matters, you are invited to a public meeting to be held on Wednesday 26 September 2012, at Nottingham City Hospital – Hucknall Road.  The event opens at 5pm with some presentations from staff on best practice ideas, followed by the formal public meeting at 6pm.

Refreshments are available, as is car parking on site.

More information available from:

Laura Thomas, NUH Hospitals NHS Trust – laura.thomas@nuh.nhs.uk – 0115 9691169 x 76242

4)    Do your Voluntary/Community Groups need money?

The Broxtowe Action Fund is available to voluntary groups, with
the aim of the fund is to support not-for-profit organisations that provide services in Broxtowe Borough.

The maximum amount that groups can apply for is £600.  There are two funding rounds each year and the deadlines for the next applications are the last day of September 2012 and then the last day of February 2013.
Further details and how to apply for the fund can obtained by contacting Richard Lea at Broxtowe Borough Council:

0115 917 3395

5) Citizens Focus Group (CFG)

We had a useful discussion and debate on Monday 16 July at the Nelson & Railway – on the subject of banking.  Thanks to all of those who attended.  I’m doing some work on credit unions as a result of this meeting, and I’ll report further in future newsletters.

We haven’t got a firm date yet for the next CFG.  I am trying to contact Dennis Skinner MP to come and do a talk in Kimberley during November.  As soon as a date is confirmed I will let you know – as I know this will be popular!

6)   Police & Crime Commissioner Role & Elections

There are elections on 15 November for this new role throughout the country.

In Nottinghamshire the Labour Candidate is Paddy Tipping (previously Labour MP for Sherwood).

The Conservative candidate is County Councillor Mike Quigley MBE.

Dr Raj Chandran is standing as an Indepedent.

The Liberal Democrats are not fielding a candidate (no laughing at the back please).

For more general information on this subject see: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/police/police-crime-commissioners/

Labour’s candidate will be Paddy Tipping – can be contacted at: paddytipping@googlemail.com

More general information on all the candidates in Nottinghamshire can be found at http://www.policecrimecommissioner.co.uk/Nottinghamshire

7)  Broxtowe Women’s Project AGM – Wednesday 12 September – 1pm to 3pm – Carnegie Centre, Stapleford

Broxtowe Women’s Project will be highlighting the work of domestic violence services locally.  Guest Speakers wil include Rebecca Thompson – Domestic Abuse Service Co-ordinator for Broxtowe Borough Council, and Chris Cutland – Chief Executive of Women’s Aid Integrated Services.

There will be a fantastic opportunity to view a film of a piece of theatre based around domestic abuse, and the harm caused to children and young people affected by living with parental domestic abuse.  The drama was developed by a group of ‘A’ level drama students from Whitehills Park Federation as part of their BTEC qualification in Performing Arts.

Light buffet lunch, tea and coffee will be available.  The Mayor of Broxtowe Cllr Margaret Handley will also be attending to lend her support for the event.

To register your attendance please contact:

Broxtowe Women’s Project Limited
T: 01773 718555  E: lisa.bwp@btconnect.com  or

8)   Raising money for research to fight breast and prostate cancer

A friend of mine Andrew Moon who lives locally is undertaking a Lands End to John o Groats once in a lifetime trip to aid research as above.

He’s looking for sponsorship for this very worthy cause and if you can help him at all, please do contact him at:

9)    Nottinghamshire County Council Elections – Thursday 2 May 2013

Not that I expect too many of you are thinking about this at the moment.  The various political parties either have or are selecting their respective candidates though.  In our area the following three candidates have been selected for Labour:

Nuthall: Dawn Elliott – E: dawnwale@googlemail.com

Greasley Beauvale: Edward Llewellyn-Jones – E: edwardbeauvale13@gmail.com

Kimberley & Trowell: Helena Lings – E: helenal007@hotmail.com

In respect of the other parties, we are aware that in Kimberley & Trowell the Liberal Democrats have selected Ken Rigby again.  The Tories we are told have been deliberating between Shane Easom and Lydia Ball and possibly “someone else” (no decision we understand has been made yet).

10)   Permits to take household waste to Giltbrook Household Waste Recycing Centres

I’ve been having some quite interesting e-mail exchanges with people who have experienced some problems in taking small amounts of household rubble to dispose of at the local recycling centre (local tip).

The main gripe appears to be around having to apply for a permit that takes 7-14 days to process and on the face of it seems a bit burdensome.

I’m trying to build up a bigger picture to see if there is a wider problem.  If any of you have experience difficulties, please do let me know.

11)  Sport Nottinghamshire Board Members and Chair

Sport Nottinghamshire is seeking individuals who have gained public respect and credibility, can demonstrate vision and leadership, and have a track record of building relationships, effective networking and making things happen.

An Information Pack, Job Description & Person Specification and Application Form for Board membership can be obtained by contacting Ian Wakefield, email: ian.wakefield@ntu.ac.uk  or by calling 0115 848 3469

You may submit a CV in support of a completed application form.  For an informal discussion on the role contact Simon Starr on 0115 848 3443 or 07967 308 527.

The closing date for applications is 12 noon, Monday 24 September 2012

12)   In Brief

a)  The new Chair of Kimberley Town Council is Cllr Jim McDonald, and Vice Chair is Cllr Dave Nunn.  Their respective contact details are:  mcdonaldjim@hotmail.com   david.nunn20@ntlworld.com

b)  Kimberley Farmers Market is 3 years old on Saturday 6 October!

Not a bad feat to say all the opposition we have endured!

– Local traders will be taking part in a shop window display competition

– The winner of the Great Kimberley Book Read will be announced

– Anna Soubry MP will present prizes

– children will parade to Kimberley Library in fancy dress

– We’ll have a band on Toll Bar Square

This is not be be missed!  Put the date in your diaires!

Gerry Hargreaves has a background of electrical installation

and maintenance followed by considerable experience of energy monitoring

providing technical support to the marketing division ofEast Midlands

Projects throughout the UKhave included energy monitoring

and data/billing analysis to assist companies to improve efficient use of

energy. This has included disputes with electricity suppliers and distributors

and site surveys, installation of temporary monitoring equipment and

recommendations to install suitable power factor correction equipment.

Site surveys for the installation of a M&T at major

sites, have been undertaken and with the recent advances in remote monitoring

technologies surveys and installation of GSM smart meters have been undertaken

at distribution centres of a leading logistics company.

A request by a leading UKenergy supplier has resulted in the installation of remote data collection

technology, including planning and installation of remote data logging

equipment to monitor and analyse usage data from geothermal sites within theUK. This work

is ongoing in the development of renewable energy and low carbon technology.

Site visits and travel are significant reduced with the application of t-mac
