Kimberley, Cossall, Awsworth & Trowell News Update & Information Service August 2012
A warm welcome to the August update and especially those who have joined the e-mail list during July.
Hope you are all enjoying the Olympics (and as I write at least) – dry weather.
As usual plenty to get through, so straight down to business.
Feedback always encouraged. Also do contact Andy, Mary or myself for help with personal casework. We are only too happy to try and be of assistance.
I’m on holiday for a couple of weeks mid August, so the September edition will be slightly later than the usual beginning of the month.

As I’m away for a fair part of August I’ve included the dates above for both the August and September markets. Do come along, and support your local market. We are constantly endeavouring to attract more traders to the market, and we’d love to see you there for a warm and friendly welcome!
3) Former Hardy & Hansons Brewery Site, Kimberley
The owners of the former brewery site Barteak Developments Limited and AMFAAH Investments Limited are holding a public consultation on their proposed masterplan for the site. 4) Grass cutting – verges – Newtons Lane/The Glebe, Cossall & street signs
I received some questions this month on the state of the grass cutting performed in this area. I made some enquiries and I understand that some improvements have now been made. If anyone has concerns about the council cutting of verges etc in any other location, please do get in touch.
I also believe that some street signs in the Newton’s are in need of replacement, being very well worn. I have reported this too, and am told this work will be undertaken.
5) Citizens Focus Group (CFG)
We had a useful discussion and debate on Monday 16 July at the Nelson & Railway – on the subject of banking. Thanks to all of those who attended. Following on from this meeting I’m going to do some work on Credit Unions (if anyone wants more information do let me know).
We haven’t set a date yet for the next CFG session, it’s likely to be either September or early October. I’ll let you know the date in due course.
One subject that has been mooted for discussion has been the new Police and Crime Commissioner Role. There are elections on 15 November and it would be very useful to raise awareness on this important role that will be played.
For more general information on this subject see: http://www.homeoffice.gov.uk/police/police-crime-commissioners/
Labour’s candidate will be Paddy Tipping – and he can be contacted at: firstname.lastname@example.org

There will be a fantastic opportunity to view a film of a piece of theatre based around domestic abuse, and the harm caused to children and young people affected by living with parental domestic abuse. The drama was developed by a group of ‘A’ level drama students from Whitehills Park Federation as part of their BTEC qualification in Performing Arts.

9) Knowle Lane Play Equipment project
An excellent project and partnership between Kimberley Primary School, Broxtowe Borough Council, Kimberley Town Council, Nottinghamshire County Council and Groundwork Greater Nottingham. This is bringing significant extra play equipment to Knowle Park, which should greatly benefit children aged 11 and under.
Andy and I visited the site on Friday afternoon and the railings were just about to be dismantled, so the new equipment should now be available for use.
10) Local police – neighbourhood alerts – influence policing in your area
On 17 July 2012 the Northern Cluster Safer Neighbourhood Committee Meeting took place at Eastwood Police Station. Members of the community, councillors and police came together to discuss what local residents would like the local police to focus on over the next three months. These meetings take place every three months where three neighbourhood priorities are agreed. The Northern Cluster Neighbourhood Policing Team cover Brinsley, Eastwood North, Awsworth, Cossall, Newthorpe & Giltbrook.
To help the local police with the ongoing process please fill out a survey at www.neighbourhoodprioritysurvey.co.uk
You can highlight what issues and concerns you have in the area in which you live and the local beat team will work accordingly.
The following three neighbourhood priorities were agreed at the meeting and will stay in place until the next meeting on 16 October 2012:
Vehicles exceeding the speed limit in Brinsley, Moorgreen and Awsworth.
Youth related anti-social behaviour
Anti social behaviour appears as a common theme of complaint across Awsworth, Brinsley and Eastwood North and can affect the quality of life for residents. Residents were concerned that there may be increased problems during the school six weeks holidays.
Vehicle nuisance including parking and off-road motorbikes and mini motos
Residents of Awsworth & Cossall, Eastwood North and Brinsley are concerned about parking problems and youths riding unregistered motorcycles and mini motos on roads, footpaths and on common land around causing noise and danger.
The Northern cluster local beat teams will create appropriate problem solving plans In an effort to reduce these problems. This will include involving any appropriate partners.
If you need advice or help please do not hesitate to contact the local beat team:

11) Queueing traffic – Nottingham Road Giltbrook – traffic light phasing
I received a number of complaints this month with the traffic light phasing in Giltbrook and the resultant queues stretching back to IKEA. This matter was brought to the attention of the County Council and they say they have rectified the issue of traffic light phasing. I’d be interested to learn of any experiences people have during the next few weeks – do get in touch with any problems.
The County Council contact is:
Kelly Taggart, Highways Liaison Officer, Highways South, Environment and Resources Department, Nottinghamshire County Council, E: firstname.lastname@example.org
